Chapter 104 The Midnight Revelation
The wound wasn’t particularly deep, yet blood continued to seep slowly.
Vincent found himself asking. “Does this require medical attention at a hospital?”
Scarlett frowned, turning to face Vincent directly. “You really don’t need to pretend to care.”
His excessive attentiveness felt artificial and performative to her.

Had they not been at the Stewart Manor, Scarlett might have read deeper meanings into his behavior.
But given their surroundings, she concluded that every word and action was likely part of an elaborate charade.
Vincent met her gaze but remained silent.
Scarlett didn’t concern herself with his thoughts. After completing her facial routine, she stated, “There’s something I need to discuss with you.”
He had been prolonging the divorce proceedings for what felt like an eternity.
She wanted to understand his perspective and determine how they might conclude matters amicably.
But before Vincent could acknowledge her request, his phone abruptly vibrated.
He glanced at the screen-the caller ID displayed “Sabrina”.
Scarlett observed his hesitation, the visible conflict between answering and ignoring the call. She offered a thin smile. “Feel free to take it.”
With the ringing nearing its end, Vincent finally accepted the call.
As he began speaking, he walked out of the bathroom.
Standing behind him, Scarlett could discern a young girl’s voice through the receiver-Vanessa. “Daddy, look! Sabrina and I drew a little villa together!”
Vincent stared intently at the screen, watching the video transmission. Noting three figures in the drawing, he inquired curiously, “Vanessa, who have you drawn here?”
Vanessa’s voice bubbled with excitement. “I drew you, Daddy, and Sabrina, and me! We’re all sunbathing together!”
Vincent’s smile became unmistakable. “That’s truly wonderful artwork.”
Vanessa asked, “Daddy, was Great-Grandpa happy today?”
Vincent confirmed, “Yes, he was very happy.”
“Daddy, I’ll visit him next time. Sabrina wants to go on vacation, so I want to go with her.”
Vincent’s tone remained even. “That’s fine.”

Chapter 104 The Midnight Revelation
He had settled in the living room area, engaged in his phone conversation. Scarlett remained in the bathroom, meticulously completing her skincare regimen.
Finished
She delayed her exit specifically to hear what Vanessa might say to Vincent-perhaps Vanessa would inquire about Scarlett.
Instead, Scarlett inadvertently discovered the real reason Vanessa hadn’t returned to the Stewart Manor for the celebration.
It was Xavier’s significant birthday, a major family occasion, yet Vanessa had chosen to go on vacation with Sabrina instead.
Were Xavier to learn the truth, he would likely be deeply hurt.
Vanessa’s voice carried through again. “Daddy, you didn’t tell Great-Grandpa, right? If he finds out I went traveling instead of attending his birthday, he’ll be terribly upset.”
Vincent replied reassuringly, “I provided a plausible excuse for you. Told him you’d gone to visit your grandmother.”
Vanessa sighed with relief. “Thank you, Daddy. You’re the best.”
“Preparing for bed now?” Vincent’s expression was filled with paternal affection.
He might have been a deficient husband, but as a father, he demonstrated genuine dedication.
Overhearing Vincent using her own mother as cover so Vanessa could travel with Sabrina ignited fresh resentment within Scarlett.
She couldn’t suppress a wave of bitterness toward him.
Vanessa continued through the phone, “Not yet. I’m going to the beach with Sabrina to stargaze.”
Vincent, now seated in the living room, lit a cigarette and responded, “Very well, but don’t stay out excessively late. Ensure you rest afterward.”
Vanessa agreed, then suddenly asked with hopeful anticipation, “Daddy, are you coming? It feels incomplete without you. Sabrina seems disappointed too.”
Vincent glanced toward Scarlett, still visible in the bathroom. Remembering Xavier’s insistence they stay overnight, he declined Vanessa’s invitation. “Not tonight. I’ll take you and Sabrina stargazing together another time.”
Vanessa’s voice drooped with disappointment. “Alright then.”
Vincent said, “Go enjoy your time with Sabrina. I’m ending the call now.”
Mere mention of Sabrina visibly elated Vanessa. “Okay! I’m going now. If you change your mind, please come early!”
“Understood.”
After Vanessa disconnected, Vincent set his phone aside.

盤 Fillached
Having overheard their entire exchange. Scarlett felt profound disappointment and a strange sense of absurd amusement.
Throughout the conversation, Vanessa hadn’t mentioned her even once.
A sharp pang struck her heart, yet no tears formed.
Unwilling to reveal her vulnerability, Scarlett closed the bathroom door and pretended to use the facilities.
Vincent noted this but offered no comment.
Scarlett remained standing in the bathroom for several minutes, allowing her emotions to stabilize before finally emerging.
When she did, she found Vincent had already showered-evidently using the guest bathroom-and was now lying on the bed.
He lay on his side, watching videos on his phone.
The bed was generously sized, yet he occupied only one side, leaving the other half conspicuously empty- as if deliberately reserving that space for Scarlett.
