Chapter 107 The Unwelcome Dinner

finished

In conclusion, she turned to Scarlett with a strained smile and asked, “I’ll drink first as my apology. Will you forgive me now?”

Scarlett looked at her, feeling both heartache and helplessness. “Yes.”

Claire’s smile widened briefly before she nudged Elias with her elbow, signaling him to offer a toast to Scarlett as well.

Elias, visibly reluctant, raised his glass. “Here, this one’s for you.”

Scarlett lifted her glass slightly but made no move to clink it with his. She merely took a small, symbolic sip of her wine.

Elias mirrored her action, barely moistening his lips.

Claire was clearly attempting mediation, and Scarlett remained present solely out of respect for their friendship. As for Elias, however, she had no intention of ever being cordial with him again.

The dinner atmosphere remained strained throughout. Claire persistently tried to facilitate conversation between them. When Elias posed ‘a question, Scarlett would respond with a noncommittal “Hmm”.

Their mutual animosity was palpable, yet Claire continued exerting maximum effort to reconcile them.

But some relationships, once fractured, simply cannot be restored.

This was precisely how Scarlett felt about Elias-and, increasingly, about her marriage to Vincent as well.

They eventually endured the meal to its conclusion. Elias rose to settle the bill.

Claire grasped Scarlett’s arm and inquired softly, “Are you angry with me?”

“No, as long as you’re content.”

Now Scarlett finally understood how her own family had felt when they’d attempted to dissuade her from marrying Vincent.

Claire lowered her gaze. “I know you’re displeased, but…”

Scarlett had no desire to hear further justification. She stood abruptly. “I’m visiting the restroom.”

Scarlett believed Claire needed to navigate her own emotional realizations. Currently, Claire resembled exactly who Scarlett had been years earlier.

When Scarlett emerged from the restroom, she immediately spotted Elias. He must have completed payment but was heading in the wrong direction.

Approaching closer, Scarlett observed a young woman with loosely styled hair seated at a nearby table.

Elias placed his hand on the back of the woman’s chair, leaning forward to effortlessly encircle her within

his arms.

They were whispering intimately, their faces close, exchanging unknown words. Shortly thereafter, Elias retrieved his phone and added the woman’s number.

Having accomplished this, Elias straightened up, waved his phone at the woman, and said, ‘Don’t forget to

contact me.”

The woman beamed radiantly, nodding repeatedly with an intoxicating blend of shyness and sweetness.

Scarlett witnessed the entire interaction. She could only conclude one thing about Elias-a leopard cannot change its spots.

As Elias turned to return to their private room, he immediately noticed Scarlett’s presence.

Across the spacious dining area, their eyes locked from a distance. Scarlett’s gaze brimmed with undisguised contempt, while Elias appeared utterly indifferent.

After an extended silent confrontation, Elias finally approached Scarlett. He halted directly before her, then unexpectedly leaned forward and taunted, “What’s this? Found me so irresistible you can’t stop following me? Or are you attempting some secret rendezvous behind your best friend’s back? If that’s your intention, I’d be delighted to accommodate you.”

Scarlett took a deliberate step backward and muttered under her breath, “You disgusting animal.”

The insult seemed not to bother Elias in the slightest. If anything, it appeared to amuse him further. He grinned provocatively. “Care to discover exactly how animalistic I can be?”

Scarlett raised her hand to strike him, but Elias swiftly captured her wrist. With a sharp tug, he pulled Scarlett directly against his chest, holding her firmly.

“What’s this? Couldn’t resist throwing yourself at me after all?”

At that precise moment, the door to an adjacent private room opened, and two figures emerged.

It was Vincent and Daniel.

Scarlett faced Elias, while Vincent and Daniel exited from the room behind her.

Consequently, she remained unaware of their presence.

Elias similarly failed to notice Vincent and Daniel. He was too preoccupied with brazenly pulling Scarlett into his embrace, his gaze roaming over her with predatory appreciation.

However much he disliked Scarlett personally, Elias couldn’t deny she possessed an exceptionally attractive figure.

Particularly tonight, her form-fitting dress accentuated every curve. He felt an undeniable stirring of desire.

Scarlett’s hand remained trapped in Elias’ grip. She struggled to free herself, but he only tightened his hold.

Nevertheless, Scarlett yanked her arm back with desperate strength, disregarding potential injury.

Elias maintained his grasp but wasn’t employing full force. Thus, when Scarlett exerted genuine effort, she actually succeeded in breaking free,

However, the momentum of her pull sent her stumbling backward. Before she could even register the impending fall, someone caught her with steady, firm support.

A pair of strong arms encircled her, preventing further collapse.

As she regained her balance, Scarlett offered a slight nod. “Thank you.”

But when she lifted her head, she found herself staring directly into Vincent’s impassive face.
