Chapter 109 Nolan’s Defense

He offered Scarlett a warm smile. “I was just about to ask you the same question-what brings you to this part of town?”
Scarlett explained casually, “I was just giving a friend a ride home.”
Nolan nodded understandingly before suggesting, “Since we’ve both found ourselves here unexpectedly, would you care to join me for some late-night snacks?”
Scarlett agreed without hesitation, “That sounds perfect.”
Since she had her car, Scarlett gestured for Nolan to take the passenger seat.
They drove to a famously popular street food alley known for its vibrant atmosphere. Before sitting down, Nolan meticulously cleaned both chairs and their table with disinfectant wipes, attending to every possible surface she might touch.
Scarlett smiled at his thoroughness. “Nolan, you really don’t need to go through all this trouble. I’m not nearly that delicate.”
Nolan simply returned her smile and continued his careful cleaning of everything within Scarlett’s reach.
But the moment Nolan settled into his seat, he noticed an unexpected group entering the establishment, their arrival marked by the rustling of the entrance curtain being pushed aside.
Vincent, Daniel, Harris, Sabrina…
They filed in and selected a table not far away.
Daniel was the first to spot Scarlett. He nudged Vincent discreetly, directing his attention toward their table.
When Vincent looked over, Scarlett met his gaze directly. Their eyes held for a brief, charged moment before both simultaneously looked away.
What incredibly unfortunate timing-running into each other in such an unlikely place.
All she had wanted was a peaceful meal with Nolan.
While they waited for their food, Daniel suddenly rose and approached their table.
Before Scarlett could process his intention, Daniel pulled up a chair and seated himself directly beside Nolan.
“Bet you didn’t know this,” Daniel began, his tone deliberately provocative, “but just about an hour ago, Scarlett was having dinner with another man.”
He was clearly attempting to paint Scarlett as promiscuous in Nolan’s eyes.
Most men might have begun questioning Scarlett’s character upon hearing such a remark, but Nolan merely smiled calmly at Daniel. “Scarlett is free to do as she pleases. Who she chooses to dine with is none of my concern. Her happiness is what matters-not just to me, but no one has the right to control her
choices.”

Chapter 109 Nolan’s Defense
In Nolan’s perspective, he hadn’t earned the privilege to dictate Scarlett’s personal life.
Moreover, he trusted that Scarlett conducted herself with integrity.
Daniel’s expression hardened at Nolan’s response. “With all the women available in this city, you deliberately choose to pursue this particular one?”
Nolan remained unruffled. “That remains none of your business.”
Daniel pressed further, “Tell me what type of woman you prefer. I can make introductions. My social connections are extensive-I know women of every variety you could possibly imagine.”

Nolan replied politely but firmly, “I appreciate the offer, but it’s unnecessary. You should conserve your social resources for yourself.”
Seeing Nolan’s unwavering defense of Scarlett, Daniel’s irritation mounted. He lowered his voice to a venomous whisper. “You were once highly respected in medical circles, yet now you can’t even secure employment. All those years of education rendered worthless by a single word from me. How does that feel, Dr. Huntley?”
Nolan offered Daniel a deliberately bright, artificial smile, though his eyes remained cold. “It feels remarkably liberating. Early retirement provides abundant free time.”
Daniel grew even more incensed. “Only stray dogs content themselves with others’ leftovers. Don’t degrade yourself to that level, Dr. Huntley.”
Nolan’s smile widened. “How amusing-that description seems to fit you rather perfectly as well.”
Realizing Nolan had just called him an animal, Daniel snapped, “Nolan, you-”
Scarlett had heard enough. She fixed Daniel with an icy glare. “Why do you persist in harassing us, Mr. Lennox? My private affairs aren’t even my husband’s concern-what gives you the right to interfere?”
Her words struck with precision, momentarily rendering Daniel speechless. Still, he attempted a dismissive tone. “No particular reason. I simply find your behavior intolerable.”
Scarlett retorted sharply, “Then you should learn to tolerate your displeasure silently. No law requires you to voice.every distasteful thought that enters your mind.”
She allowed Daniel no opportunity for rebuttal. Rising gracefully, she addressed Nolan, “Let’s find another establishment.”
Nolan stood immediately. “Certainly.”
As they passed Vincent’s table, Scarlett deliberately paused.
Vincent looked up at her but remained silent.
Scarlett glared down at him, her voice cutting through the noisy atmosphere. “You might lack self-control, but you should at least keep your attack dogs leashed. If you’ve abandoned basic decency, you scarcely qualify as human.”
She cared nothing for Vincent’s reaction. Having spoken her piece, Scarlett departed with Nolan.

Chapter 109 Nolan’s Defense
Vincent offered no response, yet his mood visibly darkened.
Having overheard Scarlett’s remarks to Vincent, Daniel appeared ready to pursue them, but Sabrina restrained him with a hand on his arm. “Daniel, let it go. Please return to your seat.”
Since Sabrina intervened, Daniel could only sigh in resignation. “Very well.”
