It was crystal clear that he didn’t have an ounce of love for his wife, yet the way he’d suddenly brought her up and bluntly admitted that fact left Sabrina completely befuddled.

She hung her head low, her lips pressed into a tight, thin line, her mind racing to make sense of his unexpected comment.

Daniel stole a quick glance at her, and in that split second, he could read her confusion like an open book-he knew exactly what was swirling around in her head.

But Daniel had already solidified his stance-he was firmly in Sabrina’s corner, and he was determined to back her every step of the way until she became Vincent’s wife someday.

As for Vincent, he didn’t bring up anything else besides the gifts they’d discussed earlier.

Once the conversation wrapped up, Daniel walked them to the door and saw them off, only turning back toward the house once their car had pulled away and disappeared from sight.

The driver sat up front, focused on the road, while Vincent and Sabrina settled into the backseat. From the moment they climbed in, an awkward silence hung in the air-neither of them said a word.

Vincent kept his gaze fixed downward, his fingers tapping lightly on his phone screen as he scrolled through something, though Sabrina had no clue what had captured his attention. Sabrina couldn’t help but feel a twinge of unease. Finally, she mustered up the courage to break the silence. “Vincent?”

He looked up at her, his voice cool and calm, as if he hadn’t noticed the tension between them. “What is it?”

Sabrina hesitated, not daring to bring up the uncomfortable things Madeline had said earlier- she didn’t want to ruin the moment or make him angry. Instead, she opted for a safer topic. “I’m not going back to Ravenshade Villa tonight. I need to head home for a few days.”

She deliberately left out the reason for her trip, figuring it didn’t matter much and she didn’t want to overexplain.

To her relief, Vincent didn’t press her for details. He just nodded slightly, his expression unchanged. “Alright.”

But Sabrina still sensed something was off. She wondered if it was because of Madeline’s comments, and a wave of worry washed over her. Tentatively, she asked, “Vincent, when I come back… will you come pick me up?” She held her breath, waiting for his answer, hoping it would ease her anxiety.

He looked at her, and a small, soft smile tugged at the corner of his lips-the kind of smile that always made her heart flutter. “Of course I will.”

Vincent had never been one for long, elaborate speeches; he was a man of few words, and his demeanor was always calm and collected. But Sabrina knew him well enough to read between the lines. If he’d agreed to pick her up, it meant he wasn’t mad about what Madeline had said.

In fact, he might not have even taken those harsh words to heart at all. And if he didn’t care about them… maybe that meant he’d quietly accepted the idea of her being part of his life, just like Madeline had implied. The thought made her feel warm inside.

As she was lost in her own thoughts, Vincent suddenly spoke up, pulling her back to the present. “So, when are you leaving?”

Sabrina paused for a moment, then replied, “Tomorrow morning.”

He thought about it for a second, then said, “I’ll come over and see you off tomorrow.”

Sabrina’s face lit up instantly, a bright, genuine smile spreading across her features. “Thank you, Vincent.”

He smiled back at her, his eyes soft and warm, filled with a gentle affection that made her knees feel weak. Sabrina felt her cheeks flush, and she shyly lowered her head, all her little worries and doubts melting away in that moment.

She’d been so scared that Vincent would be upset because of Madeline, but now she realized she’d been overthinking everything-she should have trusted him more.

The driver took a slight detour to drop Sabrina off at her place first, then continued on to take Vincent back to Ravenshade Villa. By the time he arrived home, it was already past nine o’clock at night.

As he walked into the courtyard, he noticed that the lights in the living room were still on, and through the window, he could just make out Vanessa playing with her toys on the floor. The sight of his daughter instantly brought a smile to his face,

When he stepped into the hall, Lily, who was sitting nearby watching over Vanessa, was the first to notice him. She stood up slightly, a polite smile on her face. “You’re back, Mr. Stewart?”

Vincent stopped at the door, slipping off his shoes and placing them neatly by the rack. He hung his coat up too, then loosened his tie as he walked over toward Vanessa.

At the same time, he turned to Lily and asked, his voice casual but with a hint of curiosity, “Has Scarlett been by at all?”

Lily’s smile faded, and she frowned slightly at the question. She shook her head. “No. Mrs. Stewart hasn’t been back here in quite a while now.”

Ever since Madeline had gone in for surgery, Scarlett had stopped coming around altogether- she’d barely even checked in.

Vincent’s own frown deepened, and he hesitated for a moment, clearly not satisfied with that answer. “What about this morning? Did she stop by then?”

Lily looked at him, her expression sympathetic, and shook her head again. “No, she didn’t, Mr. Stewart. I haven’t seen her all day.”

Vanessa, who had been busy with her toys, looked up when she heard Vincent’s voice. Her face lit up, and she called out, “Daddy!”

Vincent replied with a soft “Mm,” his eyes warm as he sat down on the floor in front of her. He reached out and took her small, tiny hand in his, his touch gentle. “Vanessa, did Mom call you today?”

Vanessa tilted her head to the side, her little brow furrowed as she thought hard about it. After a few seconds, she shook her head, her voice quiet. “No.”

Vincent’s frown deepened even more, a look of concern crossing his face. “Did you try calling Mom yourself?”

Vanessa shook her head again, then lowered it, her shoulders slumping slightly-she could tell her dad wasn’t happy, and she didn’t want to disappoint him.

But Vincent didn’t scold her, and he made sure not to say anything negative about Scarlett in front of their daughter. Instead, he softened his voice, his tone gentle and caring. “Do you miss Mom, sweetheart?”

Vanessa nodded, but then quickly added, “I do… but it’s okay.” Her little voice was brave, but Vincent could hear the hint of sadness in it.

He reached out and stroked her cheek softly, his thumb brushing against her smooth skin. “How about this-let Mom take you to school tomorrow? Would you like that?”

Vanessa frowned, confused by the sudden suggestion. “Daddy, why?”

Before Vincent could answer her question, Vanessa’s eyes lit up with another thought, and she quickly asked, “Wait, where’s Sabrina? Why didn’t she come home with you tonight?”

Vincent’s expression softened, and he replied calmly, “Sabrina went to visit her family. She won’t be here for the next few days.”

Vanessa’s face fell, and she looked surprised and a little disappointed. “Oh… really?”

Then, her eyes brightened again, and she asked, “Can we go visit Sabrina with her family?

Vincent chuckled softly at her eagerness. “We’ll have to wait until the weekend, sweetie. School comes first-you have to finish your classes before we can go out and play.”

Vanessa let out a quiet, dramatic sigh, but she knew he was right. “Okay, fine,” she mumbled.

Vincent glanced at the clock on the wall-it was getting late, and Vanessa needed to get ready for bed. He gently patted her shoulder. “Go let Lily help you wash up and get into your pajamas, okay? It’s time for bed. I’ll call Mom and ask her to come take care of you for the next few days.”
