Vincent’s voice came through. “What is it?”

Scarlett spoke with complete seriousness, “Unless it’s about the divorce papers being ready, please don’t call me anymore. I’m busy and don’t have time for these games. Besides, we’re not young anymore. Dragging this out is just a waste of both our time.”

Vincent remained silent for a long moment before finally responding, “Abbott called earlier. He said the divorce agreement is mostly finalized. I’ll check with him again tomorrow. Let’s meet tomorrow evening at Oakland Villa.”

Hearing this, Scarlett finally felt a wave of relief wash over her. “Alright. I’ll see you tomorrow night.”

The following evening, Scarlett went straight to Oakland Villa after work.

Freya was both surprised and pleased to see her. “Mrs. Stewart, would you like me to prepare some dinner for you?”

“No, thank you. I’m not hungry,” Scarlett declined politely.

Freya nodded and returned to her tasks.

Scarlett settled on the sofa, waiting for Vincent to return. She didn’t even take out her phone to pass the time. But as the minutes ticked by, there was still no sign of him.

By nearly 9 o’clock, he still hadn’t appeared. With each passing moment, Scarlett’s patience grew thinner.

Finally, she couldn’t take it any longer. She called Vincent, but he didn’t answer-instead, he hung up. Almost immediately, her phone rang again. It was Vincent calling back.

Scarlett answered promptly, her voice edged with anxiety, “Vincent, where are you?”

But the voice on the other end was Abbott’s. “Mrs. Stewart, there’s been an issue at the company. Mr. Stewart has called an emergency meeting. He asked me to inform you that signing the papers will have to be postponed until tomorrow night.”

Unwilling to give up, Scarlett pressed further, “He can’t make it back tonight at all?”

Abbott explained, “A project the company was about to secure has been taken by a competitor. The entire team invested significant effort, and Mr. Stewart isn’t willing to let it

Scarlett sighed, feeling utterly defeated. “I understand.”

After hanging up, she leaned back on the sofa, emotionally drained. It seemed the divorce signing was off the table for yet another night.

But for a project to be snatched right from under Vincent’s nose… the competitor must be formidable.

The next day, just before Scarlett’s shift ended, Vincent called.

“I’m waiting at the hospital entrance,” Vincent said.

“Okay,” Scarlett replied.

After freshening up and leaving her department, Scarlett spotted Vincent’s car as soon as she stepped out of the hospital. She opened the door and got into the back seat.

The entire car ride passed in silence. Vincent took several work-related calls, including one from Sabrina.

By the time he finished his calls, they had already arrived at Oakland Villa.

They got out of the car and went straight into the main hall.

Freya’s eyes widened in disbelief at the sight of them returning together. Vincent didn’t give her a chance to ask any questions. “Freya, you can take the rest of the night off. Scarlett and I have matters to discuss.”

Freya uttered a quick “Oh, okay,” twice and hurried away. The atmosphere felt unusually tense tonight, and she didn’t dare linger.

Once Freya was gone, Vincent brought out the prepared divorce agreement. He handed it to Scarlett. “Look it over. If you have any objections, we can discuss them.”

Scarlett gave a quiet “Mm” of acknowledgment and took the papers, reading through them carefully.

Clause 1: Vincent wanted custody of Vanessa.

Clause 2: He would provide Scarlett with one billion dollars as compensation. However, aside from the monetary settlement, neither Oakland Villa nor Ravenshade Villa would be transferred to her.

Clause 3: After the divorce, Scarlett could not remarry or have another child for five years.

Clause 4: Whenever Vanessa needed her mother, Scarlett had to be available immediately.

Clause 5: Scarlett had visitation rights for Vanessa, but they were subject to approval from both Vincent and Vanessa herself.

Clause 6: They would keep the divorce a secret from Xavier for the time being. Whenever he asked them to visit, they had to pretend everything was normal.

After reading through all the terms, Scarlett found them reasonably acceptable. She looked up at Vincent and said calmly, “I have no objections.”

Her composure was almost unnerving, as if they were discussing the most mundane matter- not the dissolution of a marriage she had once schemed so hard to secure.

But now, she was letting it go just like that.

Over the past couple of days, Vincent had even wondered if this was some sort of reverse psychology from Scarlett, a ploy to regain his attention.

But seeing her now, it seemed he had overthought it.

Vincent looked into Scarlett’s eyes-the first time he had ever looked at her so intently. Even in bed, his attention had always been perfunctory.

But now, he found himself truly studying her. He had to admit, her features were exquisite— high nose bridge, deep eyes-she was genuinely beautiful.

He found himself momentarily lost in thought. Noticing his lack of response, Scarlett called out, “Vincent?”

He snapped out of it, pulling out a pen. “I have no objections either.”

After he signed his name, he handed the pen to Scarlett.
