He didn’t move, but his voice was pleading. Just let me hold you for a little while. Please, just a little while.

Scarlett lay stiffly in his arms, still attempting to push him away.

Feeling her resistance, he tightened his embrace. A choked sound escaped him. Scarlett, let me be your lover. You can love him all you want, butdon’t shut me out completely.”

He was trembling, his words raw with emotion.

Scarlett felt something damp against her skin.

She didn’t know if he was crying, but the sensation made her chest tighten.

She stopped pushing against him and allowed the embrace, speaking softly, Damian, you’re drunk.

Hearing this, Damian forcefully turned her to face him. His eyes were intense as they searched hers. You’re Scarlett. I’m Damian. The man you love is Vincent. Your daughter is Vanessa. You’re fivefootsix. You like light blue and white. You studied medicine. Your best friend is

Claire. You

His voice broke, and he lowered his gaze. Now tell me, am I drunk?

His words left her speechless. Emotion prickled behind her eyes, but her voice came out weary. Damian, why are you doing this to yourself?

He buried his face in the hollow of her shoulder. He didn’t try anything further, just leaned against her, breathing in her scent.

He muttered, I don’t care. I don’t have to be more important than Vincent, but I have to be above Nolan.

Scarlett frowned. She pushed gently at his shoulders, but when he didn’t move, she worried about making noise and alerting Nathan downstairs.

So she let him stay.

She felt his warm breath against her neck.

Staring into the darkness, she patted his back gently, comforting him as if he were a child. Get some sleep now.”

Perhaps he was truly exhausted, because as soon as he closed his eyes, his breathing evened into sleep.

Scarlett lay rigid, not daring to move. She held the position until her limbs grew numb, eventually drifting into a fitful sleep herself.

In the haze between sleep and wakefulness, she felt a persistent gaze on her.

She was a light sleeper. The sensation made her uneasy, so she opened her eyes.

Damian’s face filled her vision.

He was sitting crosslegged on the bed, watching her intently.

He wasn’t smiling; his expression was unreadable.

Seeing him like this, Scarlett knew his earlier vulnerability had been drowned in alcohol.

She didn’t dwell on it, asking calmly, Are you sober now?

He didn’t answer. He slid off the bed, picked up his jacket, and moved toward the balcony.

In the dim morning light, his shadow stretched long across the floor.

Scarlett smiled faintly. Damian, don’t come here again.”

He stopped abruptly in the middle of the room, jacket in hand.

For a long moment, he stood completely still.

Scarlett watched him, her gaze steady.

Finally, he turned around. He slung his jacket over his shoulder, hooking it with one finger.

Sober now, his usual confident demeanor had returned, and he was still impossibly handsome.

Your words don’t count. I’m not listening to you.”

If her promises had meant anything, she would have kept the one she made to him.

She was a liar. He wouldn’t obey her now.

Scarlett wanted to say more, but Damian had already turned away.

At the balcony door, he glanced back once more, then strode back to the bed. He cupped her face in his hands, leaned down, and planted a firm kiss on her forehead.

When he pulled back, he gave a satisfied smirk. Call me a fool if you want.”

With that, he grabbed his jacket and slipped out through the balcony, disappearing into the early morning.

Sitting on the large bed, Scarlett stared at the empty balcony doorway. Damian was long gone.

But his scent still lingered in the room.

She lay back down, gazing blankly at the ceiling.

Slowly, her thoughts drifted into silence.

The sky was turning pale with dawn when Vincent finally returned home.

Sabrina had waited up all night. Hearing the door, she hurried from the couch.

Vincent, you’re back.

Seeing her tired face, he frowned. Why didn’t you go to bed?

She shook her head. I couldn’t sleep until you were home.

He reached out and gently touched her cheek, his voice rough with fatigue. Silly.

Her eyes reddened, but she said nothing, only shook her head again.
