Her thoughts kept circling back to Damian’s kindness these past two days–everything he’d done, everything he’d said.
She had always told herself he must want something from her, yet even now she couldn’t pinpoint what value she could possibly hold for him.
And yet, here he was, lowering himself without hesitation, even washing her feet.
It was a small gesture, but because it was Damian doing it, it felt utterly significant.
Scarlett’s defenses were quietly softening.
What if his care was genuine?
The more she turned it over, the more restless she became.
The room felt close, so she slipped out for some air.
Walking without direction, she reached the end of the corridor where a door led to the stairwell.
She stepped through and stood by a slightly open window, letting the cool night breeze brush her face.
Stars dotted the clear sky–a serene, beautiful night.
Below the window lay the hospital courtyard.
Scarlett’s eyes were sharp, and the floor wasn’t too high. When she glanced down, she immediately spotted Damian–and Sabrina.
When Damian had received Sabrina’s text, his first instinct was to ignore it. But after a moment’s consideration, he replied, “Fine. Where?”
Sabrina sent the location–the hospital courtyard.
Damian found her sitting on a bench, arms wrapped around herself against the chill.
Hearing his approach, she turned. A gentle smile touched her lips. “Mr. Langley, you came.”
It was early winter, but Sabrina wore only a long–sleeved dress, no coat.
Damian felt no pity. His tone held a faint edge of mockery. “What? No longer keeping Vincent company?”

He meant it as a straightforward question, but to Sabrina it sounded like jealousy.
She didn’t take offense. Shivering slightly, she looked up at him with soft, appealing eyes. “I’m a little cold… Could I borrow your jacket?”
Damian’s brow twitched, then smoothed. He offered a casual smile. “Sure.”
He took off his jacket and dropped it onto her lap–not gently, but in Sabrina’s eyes, the act itself meant he cared. Otherwise, why would he give it to her?
Once she’d put it on, she felt warmer almost instantly.
Seeing him still standing, she shifted over on the bench. “Would you like to sit, Mr. Langley?”
Damian glanced at the narrow space she’d made. Sitting there would bring them close, unavoidably touching.
After a brief pause, he tilted his head, a sly arch to his brow. “Sit… or something else?”
He deliberately let the suggestion hang, his tone teasing.
Coming from someone with his roguish charm, the words carried clear implication. Sabrina flushed, momentarily flustered.
Damian didn’t wait for a reply. He sat down beside her, close enough that their arms almost brushed.
Sabrina’s heart began to race, her cheeks growing warm.
Noticing her reaction, Damian turned his head to study her, his gaze openly appraising. “You really are untouched, aren’t you?”
His eyes held a smile, but beneath it stirred something darker, harder to read.
Sabrina met his look and nodded quietly. “Yes.”
Damian let out a low, soft laugh.
The sound made Sabrina both nervous and strangely excited.
But just as suddenly, his smile faded. He kept his eyes on her. “Since you are… maybe we should get together sometime when you’re free?”
His bluntness made Sabrina’s face burn hotter. She played innocent. “Get together? For what, Mr. Langley?”

Seeing her act coy, Damian felt a flicker of disgust–but he kept it hidden.
He maintained his easy smile, leaning slightly toward her until his face was close to hers, stopping just short of touching her cheek.
His voice dropped to a murmur. “You’ll find out when you show up, Ms. Monroe.”
He didn’t spell it out, leaving the suggestion hanging, deliberately ambiguous.
Yet his meaning was unmistakable. Sabrina understood perfectly.
And upstairs at that moment…
From Scarlett’s vantage point, the distance and angle made it look as though Damian and Sabrina were kissing.
She couldn’t hear their words, but the closeness, the intimacy of their posture–it clearly spoke of a connection that wasn’t simple at all.
