Awakened Housewife Ignore Betrayer's Begs (Scarlett) novel Chapter 537

He hadn't exactly been whispering—Scarlett and Nolan both heard him clearly, and so did Damian at the other table.

When they glanced over, Damian caught sight of Scarlett and Nolan sitting close together, their chairs practically side by side.

Nolan didn't respond to the comment.

Seeing Nolan stay silent, Thomas turned his attention to Scarlett. "Well? What do you think? Don't you two make a good pair?"

Scarlett looked up at him, about to answer, when Nolan suddenly handed the menu over to Thomas. "Professor, why don't you order?"

Thomas glanced at the menu but didn't take it. His eyes stayed fixed on Scarlett, clearly waiting for her response before he'd let it go.

Nolan knew exactly what Thomas was doing—trying to play matchmaker. But he was more concerned that Scarlett might feel uncomfortable with the approach.

He'd tried to step in, give her an out.

He just hadn't expected his well-meaning interruption to backfire.

Thomas smiled at Scarlett. "Let me tell you, Scarlett—a man as considerate as Nolan? You don't come across that every day."

Scarlett nodded politely. "He really is very thoughtful."

Seeing them exchange what looked almost like flirty glances, Thomas chuckled. "You two really are a match made in heaven—two brilliant doctors, both at the top of your field. In the future, you could be friends, colleagues, lovers. How wonderful would that be?"

Scarlett understood exactly what he was getting at. She responded lightly, "Professor, Nolan's handsome enough that he'd look good next to anyone who's not a mess."

Thomas shook his head firmly. "No, no. You should see him when he's with you—he lights up like nothing else."

Nolan was still holding the menu out. Worried his arm might be getting tired, Scarlett gently took it from him and passed it to Thomas. "Professor, please order."

Finally, Thomas accepted the menu. He looked up at Nolan. "What are you in the mood for?"

Nolan thought for a moment. "How about the crispy pork soup?"

Scarlett caught that immediately—it was one of her favorites.

Thomas heard the order and cheerfully added steamed fish to the list. Nolan loved fish.

Thomas had mentored countless students over the years, but Nolan was his pride and joy—the one who'd exceeded all expectations.

Still, this star pupil of his didn't have a girlfriend, and it had worried Thomas so much he joked it'd turned his hair gray.

Seeing Thomas add the fish, Scarlett chimed in, "Then let's get lobster bisque too."

That was Thomas' favorite.

After she spoke, all three of them exchanged smiles, a quiet understanding passing between them.

At the other table, Damian heard their laughter clearly. There wasn't a trace of a smile on his face.

He was usually easygoing, never one to take things too seriously. But this was the first time a woman had made it impossible for him to smile.
