Awakened Housewife Ignore Betrayer's Begs (Scarlett) novel Chapter 541

When her mom got home, she was going to give her a piece of her mind.

So Vanessa sat on the couch acting like she couldn't care less, flipping through TV channels for a bit, then playing with her toys for a while.

When she got bored with that, she went out to the backyard with Lily to wander around.

That was how she spent the evening—waiting downstairs from a little after six until almost nine at night.

She'd been waiting for nearly three hours, but Scarlett still wasn't home.

As much as she didn't want to admit it, the truth was right in front of her: Scarlett wasn't coming back.

Lily warmed up some milk in the kitchen, and when she came out holding the cup, she said softly to Vanessa, "Sweetheart, why don't you drink your milk and head upstairs to bed? It's really late now."

Hearing that, Vanessa glanced toward the front door, but there was still no sign of Scarlett.

Right then, something twisted in Vanessa's chest.

It was the first time in a long while that she really, truly felt like Scarlett didn't care about her anymore.

Before, whenever she cried, whenever she threw a fit, Scarlett would always drop everything and come running back to her.

But now that was over. Vanessa had cried, she'd thrown tantrums, she'd even said she missed her—and still, she wouldn't come home.

Vanessa was hurt. When Lily handed her the warm milk, she shoved it away without thinking. "Go away, I don't want milk."

The cup hit the floor, milk splashing everywhere. Glass shattered across the tiles.

Lily froze. She'd never seen Vanessa like this before—that look on her face, sharp and angry, like she wanted to bite someone.

Vanessa didn't stick around in the living room. She glanced at the milk pooling on the floor, but there wasn't a trace of guilt in her eyes.

As she headed upstairs, Vincent happened to step out of his home office.

The noise downstairs had been loud enough to reach him.

When he came out, he saw Vanessa climbing the stairs.

He looked down and noticed the spilled milk on the floor.

Vanessa felt the chill coming off Vincent. Her nose stung, and before she knew it, tears were rolling down her cheeks.

"Daddy." Vanessa's voice cracked as she walked toward him, crying.

She reached out and wrapped her arms around his leg, sobbing. "Mommy doesn't want me anymore."

Seeing Vanessa cry like that broke something in Vincent. Whatever he'd been about to ask about the mess downstairs faded.

His chest ached. He couldn't stand seeing her like this, so he crouched down in front of her and asked gently, "You really wanna see Mommy?"

Vanessa nodded. "Yeah. I really do."

Vincent said, "If you really want to, how about we go find her?"

Vanessa shook her head immediately. "No. Mommy didn't come find me, so I don't wanna go find her."

Vincent ran his hand over the top of her head. "Then listen to Mommy. Do well in school. When she's done with what she needs to do, she'll come see you."
