Awakened Housewife Ignore Betrayer's Begs (Scarlett) novel Chapter 565

After Violet finished explaining, Scarlett looked up at her, confused. "Wait—Damian came to the house?"

Violet nodded. "Yeah. He didn't do much, though. From what I could tell, he just stayed in your room for the night. Then this morning, he actually called me out of the blue and told me you were in the hospital. That's why I came."

It clicked for Scarlett then.

Damian must have been worried she'd be alone, with no one to look after her. So he reached out to Violet.

She didn't know what his angle was, exactly. But part of her wondered if he just didn't want her lying in some hospital bed with no one by her side.

After a brief pause, Scarlett asked, "Does my brother know Damian came by the house?"

Violet gave a small nod. "He does."

Scarlett hesitated, then pressed, "How'd he take it?"

Violet let out a helpless sigh. "How do you think? He wanted to storm over here and give you a piece of his mind. I had to talk him out of it."

She studied Scarlett's face for a moment before adding, softer now, "You know your brother, Scarlett. He cares about you. He's got a temper, sure—he doesn't exactly sugarcoat things with me either—but that's just how he is."

Scarlett managed a faint smile. "I know. I get it."

Violet walked around to the other side of the bed and sat down behind Clara. She reached out and gently tucked a strand of damp hair behind Scarlett's ear. "He said he wanted to yell at you, but really? He just wanted to see you. Make sure you were okay."

Scarlett's eyes welled up. She turned her head away quickly, biting down hard to keep the tears from falling. She couldn't speak. Couldn't trust her voice.

Violet noticed and, ever tactful, shifted the subject. "So, how exactly did this happen? How'd you get hurt?"

Scarlett wiped at her eyes, took a breath, and looked back at Violet. Her expression turned serious. "Vanessa. She pushed me."

Violet blinked, genuinely caught off guard. For a moment, she didn't say anything.

Then, slowly, she shook her head. "I wouldn't have believed it if anyone else told me. Vanessa... I never thought she'd do something like that. But Scarlett—I believe you."

Scarlett let out a bitter laugh. "You're the only one."

From beside her, Clara's small voice piped up, firm and certain. "I believe you too, Auntie."

Violet smiled and added, "And Mr. Langley. He believes you too."

Scarlett's head snapped toward her, surprised. "He knows about this?"

Violet nodded. "Probably. And with the way he is? I doubt he'd let it slide, even if she is just a kid."

Clara had been sitting quietly on the bed, staring down at her lap, her little face scrunched up like she was working through something complicated.

Scarlett noticed and gently asked, "Clara? You okay? What are you thinking about?"

Clara looked up, blinked, and then said carefully, "Nothing, Auntie. Not really."

That wasn't entirely true. Her mind had been spinning—thoughts about Vanessa, about what she'd done to her mom, about ways to make her pay. But then Clara remembered what her mom always said, "Focus on your own life. Don't stoop to their level."

And besides, even if she did something, Scarlett would just end up upset.

So she kept it to herself.

Early the next morning, Violet walked into the hospital room carrying a container of food. Before she could even set it down, Scarlett's phone rang.

She glanced at the screen. Vincent.

She picked up. His voice came through, steady and neutral. "You want me to pick you up?"

Scarlett glanced at Violet, who was already unpacking the food. "No need. Violet's coming with me."
