Scarlett simply murmured, "Mm-hmm."
At that, Damian smiled. He moved to stand in front of her, then leaned down until his eyes met hers. "You totally listened to me. You left the window unlocked."
Scarlett lifted her gaze to glare at him. "I did not."
He grinned. "Yeah, you did. Your face is even red."
She looked away, her voice cooling. "Damian, you should go."
Hearing that, he didn't seem bothered at all. He just said hoarsely, "Okay."
Then, without waiting for a response, he started shrugging off his coat as he walked toward her bed. He lay down on it like he owned the place.
Scarlett froze, watching him settle in.
Damian was dressed in a long black coat, and her bedding was soft, muted tones—light grays and whites. The colors shouldn't have worked together, but somehow, at that moment, they did.
What surprised her was that she didn't actually mind.
When she saw him close his eyes, looking completely worn out, Scarlett limped over. "Did my brother say something to you?"
Damian opened his eyes, a lazy, mischievous glint in them. "You worried about me?"
The window had been open earlier, letting in the cold air, so she hadn't noticed it before. But now, with everything closed up, she caught the faint smell of alcohol on him.
Instead of answering his question, she asked, "Have you been drinking?"
He admitted without hesitation. "Yeah."
Hearing that, she couldn't help scolding him. "You climbed through a window after drinking? You weren't scared you'd fall?"
Damian propped himself up against the headboard, his body tilted slightly. He had this effortless, roguish charm—the kind that somehow never felt cheap.
He looked at her, eyes warm and deep. "For you? A little fall's nothing."
The words were flirty from the start, but they didn't come off cheesy.
Scarlett just stared at him, caught between annoyance and helplessness. "Get off my bed."
He sprawled out like a starfish. "No."
She reached down to tug at his arm. "Damian, come on."
Balancing on her crutch with one hand, she pulled at him with the other. She wasn't strong, so with one gentle yank from him, she lost her balance and toppled forward onto his chest.
Her hands caught herself against him, but her face still ended up inches from his jaw.
Before she could react, Damian pressed a quick kiss to her forehead.
