Awakened Housewife Ignore Betrayer's Begs (Scarlett) novel Chapter 714

Hearing that, Damian let out a low chuckle—a sound dripping with mockery. "Isn't this exactly what you always wanted? For me to finally walk in?"

Kylie stared back, even more bewildered. "Damian, what on earth are you talking about?"

He kept moving closer. Under normal circumstances, Kylie would have given anything to be near him, but the look in Damian's eyes now sent nothing but cold dread through her.

She stumbled sideways and landed awkwardly on the edge of the bed.

Damian gave a short, humorless laugh and glanced down at her. "You really don't know what I mean?"

Kylie shook her head. "No."

He stepped toward the bed and held out a hand.

Seeing his broad palm and defined knuckles, Kylie didn't hesitate—she placed her hand in his.

But in the next instant, Damian yanked her upright off the mattress.

Before she could regain her balance, his thumb and forefinger clamped hard around her chin.

Kylie gasped as pain shot through her jaw. Tears welled and began to trail down her cheeks.

Damian showed no tenderness—only tightened his grip.

With his free hand, he pulled out his phone, unlocked it, and thrust the screen directly in front of her eyes. "Take a good look," he demanded, his voice harsh. "Do you recognize these men?"

On the display were the men who had tried to assault Scarlett that night.

In the photos, they were barely recognizable—beaten and bloodied beyond what any person should have to see.

Kylie stared, her jaw set. "I don't know them."

Damian's tone was venomous. "You're sure?"

"Yes. I've never seen them before."

Her face was contorted with pain, yet she held firm, refusing to admit a thing.

Ignoring her denial, Damian tucked the phone away and increased the pressure on her chin.

A cold laugh escaped him. "You've got nerve, Kylie. I almost have to give you credit. The one person I've never been able to raise my voice at—the one I'd never speak a harsh word to—and you hired thugs to destroy her."

Kylie tried to turn her face away. "Damian, I don't understand what you're talking about."

His laugh turned sharper. "You think denial will make this go away?"

When she looked back at him, her eyes were pleading. "Damian, I really didn't do it."

But he was unmoved. "You've worked as my secretary for years. You know me. You know exactly what this will cost—better than I do, maybe."
