Then Lucy pulled out a bottle of whiskey from behind her, waving it lightly. "Vincent, Scarlett, Luke—just the four of us tonight. Feel like sharing a drink?"

Scarlett didn't answer right away. She glanced toward Vincent and Luke first.

In her mind, even though it was Lucy's birthday, Vincent and Luke probably wouldn't want to sit around the table drinking with her.

So she expected them to turn the offer down.

But just as the thought crossed her mind, Vincent spoke up, sounding almost cheerful. "Sure."

He agreed without a second's hesitation.

Scarlett was caught off guard. She turned back in surprise and met Vincent's gaze—his eyes held a faint, unreadable smile that made her uneasy for some reason.

Hearing Vincent's agreement, Lucy hopped up. "I'll call the server."

She went to the private dining room door, flagged down a server, and asked for four whiskey glasses.

Scarlett instinctively started to refuse. "Lucy, I'm actually not feeling too great tonight, so I'd better skip the drinks—"

Before she could finish, Luke, who had been quiet all this time, cut in impatiently. "What, having one drink with my sister is gonna kill you?"

His tone was sharp, and Scarlett clearly felt the hostility behind it.

Lucy took the glasses from the server and sat back down, shooting Luke an annoyed look. "Luke, watch your tone. Aren't you afraid Vincent will put you in your place?"

Luke dropped his gaze and stayed quiet.

He was intimidated by Vincent, but he also didn't want to ruin his sister's birthday dinner.

After scolding Luke, Lucy turned toward Vincent. "Vincent, you really need to talk to him. He's got no respect for Scarlett."

Vincent offered a light smile but said nothing.

Lucy then looked gently at Scarlett. "Don't mind him, Scarlett. He's just clueless sometimes. Tonight's my birthday, plus I got into grad school—just think of it as celebrating with me. Have a little drink, please?"

Not wanting to reject Lucy's sincerity, Scarlett finally nodded. "Okay, just one."
