Awakened Housewife Ignore Betrayer's Begs (Scarlett) novel Chapter 748

If I'd really had a chance with her... maybe I never would've gotten sick in the first place.

The thought left Nolan visibly dejected.

Scarlett shifted slightly so she could look past Damian toward him, then asked softly, "Nolan, should we head back inside?"

Nolan finally came back to himself. His eyes looked faintly red as he looked at Scarlett and nodded.

"Yeah. Let's go back."

Afraid he might lose his footing, Scarlett instinctively reached out to help support him.

Nolan lowered his eyes toward her hand, emotions tangling heavily in his chest. He could not even explain what he was feeling anymore. Everything inside him just felt unbearably heavy and suffocating.

The moment Damian noticed Scarlett helping Nolan, a sharp wave of jealousy hit him instantly. He stepped forward at once, pulled Scarlett gently back toward himself, and replaced her by taking hold of Nolan's arm instead.

Turning toward Scarlett with a grin, he said, "I'll help Nolan."

Scarlett saw what he was doing, but she did not argue with him and simply let it go.

Nolan originally wanted to refuse, yet after a brief pause, he stayed silent.

Once they returned to the hospital room, everyone settled back into their original places.

...

Unlike Rivergate, winters in Nebula City brought fast-moving snowstorms that usually disappeared as quickly as they came.

The cold there carried dampness that seeped straight through layers of clothing, and the river itself had not frozen over.

By the time Vincent arrived, the rescue operation had already ended.

Seeing the rescue crews packing up their equipment, he got out of the car and rushed straight toward them. Grabbing the team leader by the arm, he said urgently, "Please search again. You have to find her."

The rescue worker looked at him in confusion while continuing to pack up gear.

"And you are?"

"I'm the boyfriend of the girl who fell into the river."

The man looked Vincent over from head to toe before frowning slightly.

"If you cared that much, why'd it take you so long to get here?"

Vincent instinctively wanted to explain himself, but the question irritated him immediately. His expression darkened as he snapped, "What does that have to do with saving her?"

The rescue worker gave a short laugh and shot back, "You think it doesn't?"

Vincent stepped forward and grabbed him by the collar.

"So are you going to save her or not?"

Several nearby rescue workers noticed the confrontation and immediately surrounded them.

"What are you doing?" Questioning voices rose all around him.

Vincent swept a cold glance across the group and realized he was completely outnumbered. After a moment, he released the man's collar.
