When it was over, Scarlett collapsed limply into Damian's arms, utterly worn out as if she had fought a grueling battle.
Damian held her gently. Seeing her covered in sweat and drained of all strength, he could not bear to rouse her again. He pulled a piece of clothing over her body, then kissed her forehead softly. "Get some rest. We'll head back once you wake up."
Scarlett had no energy to ponder his words. She closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep without a single worry.
Damian gazed down at her peaceful sleeping face, his eyes filled with fond tenderness. "Five years. You owe me so many moments. You'll have to make every single one up to me."
Scarlett did not stir, having heard nothing of what he said.
Even so, Damian remained calm. With her, there was no middle ground. It was either never, or endless times to come. Now that they had crossed that line, he knew their time together would only grow more frequent, right up until they grew old side by side.
While Scarlett slept soundly, Damian took out his phone. He changed every label linked to her contact to "My Wife", then pinned her chat to the top and added her to his priority contacts list.
Once he finished, he pressed another light kiss to her forehead. He leaned back against the seat to rest as well.
Not far away, Vincent had witnessed everything. He had watched Damian bring a woman into the car and seen the vehicle rock back and forth.
He never caught a clear view of the woman's face, so he could not be certain if it was Scarlett. He recalled that Scarlett had worn a pale blue puffer jacket back at the bridal shop, while the woman who had gotten into the car with Damian wore a solid black coat.
Vincent kept telling himself that the woman in the car could not be Scarlett. He convinced himself that Scarlett loved him, and she would never do such a thing with Damian.
Still, he pulled out his phone. He had recorded a short video while the car was moving. He tried to zoom in, hoping to see the woman's features. But Damian had covered the windshield and rolled up the tinted windows thoroughly. The footage showed nothing but the shaking car, with no other details visible.
After replaying the video several times, he made up his mind. He would send the clip to Scarlett.
