He noticed her flushed cheeks and frowned in confusion. He circled around her, looking her up and down. Seeing how intensely red her face was, he finally asked, "What did Mom say to you to make you blush like this?"
Scarlett glanced up and shot him a glare. "This is all your doing."
Her tone held a hint of playful reproach, and Damian instantly understood. Unlike her embarrassment, a roguish grin spread across his face. He stepped up to her and leaned down. "Are you being shy?"
Scarlett huffed. "You know full well what it is."
Damian wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her close against his chest. He gazed down at her with tender eyes. "If her chatter bothers you, I'll tell her to stop."
"Won't that upset her?" Scarlett asked quickly.
He shook his head. "She won't mind."
Scarlett fell silent and let the subject drop.
Seeing she had no more to say, Damian went on, "I just want us to have time alone. With her around, I can't hold you or touch you freely."
As he spoke, he stole a quick kiss on the corner of her lips before straightening up at once. He knew if he kept going, things would escalate again.
After a moment, Scarlett looked up at him seriously. "Aren't we overindulging?"
Damian's eyes sparkled as he looked at her. "Not at all. I've got more than enough stamina."
Scarlett wriggled free from his embrace. She held up two fingers and said earnestly, "Medically speaking, it's better to keep it to twice a week."
Damian's expression fell. He grabbed her raised hand, sounding displeased. "That's way too little. Are you trying to drive me crazy?"
She met his gaze. "You managed perfectly well before we were together." Her voice faded to a murmur by the end.
Damian pulled her back into his arms and whispered against her ear. "That was before I had you. Once a man has tasted such sweetness, he can never go back to being alone."
"What do you plan to do?" he asked curiously.
"I'll let things run their course. If he finds out, so be it. If not, we won't bring it up on purpose."
Damian replied simply, "I see."
Scarlett studied his expression anxiously. "Are you upset?"
He shook his head. "Not really. I just want to shout it to the whole world—to let everyone know you're mine."
Her eyes dropped. "But I'm still technically married to Vincent. To avoid unnecessary trouble, I think it's best to..." She trailed off, leaving the words unspoken.
Damian knew exactly what she meant. Though he hated the idea, he respected her choice. "Alright. I'll follow your lead."
