At the wedding table, Cheng Su didn’t pay much attention to the silent tension between her aunt and cousin, instead quietly eating and occasionally chatting with Qi Fenglian about recent family gossip.
Deng Weiqiu and her husband came over to offer a toast, and when they reached Cheng Su, she picked up her glass and stood up.
"Congratulations to both of you. Happy wedding, and may you have a child soon!" Cheng Su said with a smile.
Deng Weiqiu thanked her and said, "If it wasn’t for you and cousin arranging things, I wouldn’t have met Guoliang. We should be toasting you instead. Since cousin isn’t here, sister-in-law, you should have a couple more drinks. Thank you both."
Cheng Su smiled, clinked glasses with them, sipped her drink, and said, "Why say thank you? As they say, marriages are predestined. If you could end up together, it’s all destiny. If you want to thank someone, thank the matchmaker. And also thank your brother and sister-in-law." Her gaze drifted toward Liu Wenjing.
Deng Weiqiu paused and looked over at Deng Weixia and his wife.
"If it weren’t for your brother and sister-in-law coming to find us, how would you and your aunt have come to Qing City? And how would you have worked in the army canteen and met your husband? So, you should thank your brother and sister-in-law. Without them, you might have met slower!" Cheng Su said with a smile.
Deng Weiqiu’s eyes flickered slightly.
She’s been working in the army for a while; she knows how to read people’s expressions and isn’t naive. She understood the underlying meaning behind Cheng Su’s words.
Simply put, if they hadn’t returned to shoulder their responsibilities, Deng Weiqiu wouldn’t have easily married.
"Your sister-in-law has a lot on her plate too. Go toast her!" Cheng Su whispered.
Deng Weiqiu smiled, toasted Qi Fenglian with her husband, and then moved to Deng Weixia and his wife’s table to offer tea and wine.
