Beast Love Show: All For Her (by Sylvester Raven) novel Chapter 111

Chapter 111 The Spy

Yates had been in the kitchen when Layla went out. When she came back trailing three Vanguards behind her he just stared for a long moment. “Layla… what’s this?”

“It’s cold out there. They came in to warm up.” Layla brushed it off, her mind already turning back to whatever Shane and Liam needed to discuss privately.

Yates glanced at the three Vanguards lined up in a row and shrank his shoulders slightly. “I’ve never been on camera with this many lenses at once before.”

Layla snapped out of her thoughts and smiled, “You’ll get used to it. You’re going to be famous.”

Yates laughed, “I’ll hold you to that.”

“Easy. When you make it big, just don’t forget me.”

Yates nodded firmly. “I promise. I’ll repay you. I swear.”

[Oh my god. This bond. I’m so jealous.]

[I want a sweet, adorable boy like that too.]

[First you’d have to be Layla. Regular people can’t afford to keep Yates.]

[A boy who eats vegetables? I can’t afford that?]

[That’s on the show, where he has no choice. Out in the real world? That kid lives like a prince. Nothing but the best.]

[Yeah, never mind. Let Layla keep him.]

[Giving up already?]

[Giving up.]

Yates put the leftover grain into the pot. Watching Layla prepare the meat stew, he fed the fire.

“That’s enough heat. You’ve been busy all day. Go rest for a bit.”

“I’m not tired.” Yates smiled at her, “I’ll take some warm water out to Prof. Slater and General Hartwell. It’s cold out there.”

Layla nodded, not thinking much of it. That little pika had always been observant.

Outside, Liam had just finished tamping down the chimney when Shane ordered him to start stacking wood

in the kiln.

Shane stood over the pit, supervising.

“Now that you’ve got your home settled, can you focus on looking for Starcore Ore?”

“Don’t rush me,” Shane said.

Chapter 111 The Spy

“I’m not rushing you. Yveria’s army won’t wait for you.” Liam’s babyish face scrunched up. “The Empire and Yveria have been at each other’s throats for years. You know how many people die every year. Every day we waste, more people die.”

“Shane. Prof. Slater. I’m asking you as a general of the Empire. Please. Get serious.”

The general of the Empire, bent over stacking wood in a dirt pit, didn’t look very commanding. Shane looked down at him.

“Is that my fault?” Shane’s voice was cold. “The new mechs went into production the year before last. Last year, Yveria was already producing perfect copies. You know where the problem is, General Hartwell.”

Liam had no comeback. “Yes, I know it’s on our end. But the problem is already here. Pointing fingers doesn’t help. We need a solution.”

“Have you found the spy?” Shane’s voice was flat.

Liam said nothing. He lowered his head and kept stacking wood.

After a long silence, he looked up again. “Do you have any idea how hard this is? Only top-level personnel have access to the mech blueprints.”

“Hard, or just unwilling? The enemy’s already right under your nose. You ignore them and turn on me instead? I can create the best mechs alive, but none of it matters if they keep getting stolen.”

“The higherups thought-if we can’t win on design, maybe we can win on materials.” Liam’s voice was almost pleading. “Think about it. If we can get Starcore Ore, it could boost mech performance. Even if Yveria steals the designs, they won’t have the materials.”

Shane turned his back on Liam. “Finish up and leave.”

“This is an order, Shane.” Liam’s temper flared. He jumped out of the pit and strode over to face Shane, his expression deadly serious.

“My job is to research whether Starcore Ore actually improves mech performance.” Shane’s voice, by contrast, had gone calm. “Finding the ore-isn’t that your assignment?”

“Are you trying to go your own way now?”
