Beast Love Show: All For Her (by Sylvester Raven) novel Chapter 113

Chapter 113 The Night Watch

Liam added, “I’ll admit, her survival skills are strong. A lot of male beastkins in the military couldn’t match her But you’ve seen the numbers-even if you haven’t seen it with your own eyes, you’ve heard how many of our people have died on this planet.”

Shane looked down at Liam for a long moment. Finally, he spoke, “You make a fair point.”

Liam let out a breath.

Good. Shane was being reasonable.

“But why do you care so much about Layla?” Shane asked.

He’d exhaled too soon.

“Do you have feelings for her?” Shane pressed.

Liam was silent for a moment.

“Too afraid to admit it?”

Liam was silent for a moment, then looked up. “You really don’t need to apply your perceptiveness here.”

There were still bits of dry grass stuck in Liam’s hair. Shane studied his face carefully. Layla had said she liked the well-behaved type.

Liam’s personality wasn’t exactly winning, and he could be a real jerk sometimes. But he had skill. And most importantly-that baby face really made him look innocent and wellbehaved.

It was an advantage that Shane couldn’t fake no matter how hard he tried.

“Why aren’t you denying it?”

Liam should deny it. He should say he doesn’t like Layla, and not act like Shane is just fixated on the wrong thing.

“Shane, weren’t we discussing something important?”

“What I’m discussing now is important. A beastkin lives what-a hundred and fifty years on average? I’m twenty-seven. If nothing goes wrong, I’ll spend the next hundred and twenty years or more with Layla. And you think this isn’t important?”

Liam looked at him, utterly exasperated. “I was talking about matters of the Empire.”

“And I’ve said everything I have to say on that.” Shane leaned against the gate, making it clear the topic was closed.

Liam was speechless. After a long pause, he tried again. “You’re planning to stay with her?

“Three months from now, barring any complications, the Empire will send a team to Planet A13 to continue investigating the far side and searching for Starcore Ore.

Chapter 113 The Night Watch

“But can you guarantee there won’t be complications?”

Liam covered the wood with dry grass, shoveled dirt on top, and tamped it down with the mallet. He worked as he looked up at Shane.

“That’s not for me to guarantee,” Shane said.

The wooden gate suddenly opened behind him. Yates came out carrying two clay cups. “Layla/asked me to bring you both some water. Dinner will be ready soon.”

Liam took a cup from Yates and drank. The warm water slid down his throat. Much better.

“At least Layla has some decency.”

Shane finished his water too and handed the empty cup back to Yates. “Bring out the fire starter. It’s time to light it.”

Yates carried the two cups inside. “Layla, Prof. Slater says it’s time to light the kiln. You should go take a look.”

Layla called back, “Coming. Keep an eye on the pot. Don’t let it burn.”

“Layla, go ahead. I’ll watch it.” Yates pulled up a little stool, sat down by the stove, and stared into the flames, lost in thought.

Layla took the fire starter outside and stomped on the top of the kiln that Liam had just tamped down. “Not bad.”

“Did you hunt today, General Hartwell?” Layla asked.

Liam blinked. Layla had never been particularly polite to him.

Now she was asking how his day had been? Red flags immediately went up.

He had a bad feeling. She was about to rope him into something.

“Just tell me what you want.”

Layla laughed, “What kind of person do you think I am, General Hartwell? I can’t just ask a casual question?”

Anyone else might not have been suspicious. But Liam had been trading with Layla long enough to know her.

With Shane, she could chatter all day about nothing. With people she didn’t like? She wouldn’t waste a single glance.

And Liam had some self-awareness.

“We’re not close enough for you to ask casual questions like that.”

Liam believed in one thing above all: if someone was being nice for no reason, they wanted something.

Behind Layla, the three Vanguards lined up in a row and followed her outside. Once they were out, they each found their positions and went back to filming their designated subjects.
