Chapter 114 One Promise
Layla, you are my goddess.]
[Layla is something else. She doesn’t give Liam an inch of respect.]
[Or an inch of her heart, for that matter. Hope Liam realizes that.]
[I don’t know if Liam realizes it, but Prof. Slater sure does. That man can’t stop smiling.]
Liam opened his mouth to argue, but Layla cut him off, “Name your price.”
“Promise me one thing,” Liam said.
“Hmm?” Layla blinked.
Before she could respond, Shane answered for her, “No.”
Layla blinked again and turned to look at him.
Were these two keeping something from her?

“Layla, anyone can sit here for one night. I can do it. We don’t need to ask someone else.”
Layla knew he could. But Shane had more important things to do.
“We’re going out tomorrow. Neither of us can stay up tonight.” Layla put a hand over Shane’s and turned back to Liam. “Tell me what it is first.”
Liam remembered their earlier conversation. Shane had said Layla would help him search. He guessed what they were planning.
The harsh condition he’d been about to propose died on his tongue under Shane’s glare.
“I haven’t decided yet. But you can rest assured-it won’t violate your principles.” Liam paused. “Or your bottom line.”
Layla frowned. She wanted to say she didn’t really have principles or a bottom line.
“And you can’t force me to quit the show.”
Liam pressed his lips together. So she was still holding a grudge about that? It had been almost a month since he’d tried to pressure her into leaving at the start of the show. Layla had a long memory.
“Fine.”
“Then we have a deal. But you have to watch it carefully. If you let it burn, the deal’s off.” Layla pointed at the kiln.
“Deal.”
[What if it burns for reasons beyond Liam’s control? What if the kiln wasn’t built right? Why does Layla automatically blame General Hartwell?]

Chapter 114 One Promise
[General Hartwell isn’t complaining. Why are you? Don’t you think he’s thought this through better than you?]
[Not really. Love makes people blind. What if he misses something? As they say, even the wisest slip up sometimes.]
[I’m shipping them even harder now.]
[Don’t you dare ship them! General Hartwell belongs to Stella! You people who ship affairs are disgusting
Stella’s fans were back.
They’d been lurking in the chat ever since Liam started walking toward Layla’s place. They’d only just now spoken up because they hadn’t been able to see him before.
[We’ll ship whoever we want. This is a dating show. Shipping is the whole point.]
[General Hartwell’s mate is Stella! What are you even thinking? Does no one want Layla? Is that why you’re trying to foist General Hartwell on her? He’s not a trash collector.]
[Open your eyes and look. Shane looks at Layla like she’s the only person in the world. Who says no one wants her? She doesn’t even want Liam.]
[If she doesn’t want him, why is she leading him on? Shameless!]
Liam looked at Layla. “Can we eat now?”
Layla curled her lip and pulled Shane toward the cabin. “Come in.”
Honestly, Layla was a little surprised. She couldn’t figure out why a vague “promise me one thing” was enough to make Liam, a general, stoop to keeping watch for her.
She’d expected him to ask for food or salt.
After all, during the work days, only two people from Stella’s cabin had shown up-Liam and Carson. They’d taken only enough salt for two people for two months.
But there were four people in that cabin. Oliver and Stella still needed to earn their share.
The only reason Layla had let Liam name his own price was that she assumed he’d ask for salt. She hadn’t expected this.
But with conditions attached—no violating principles, no forcing her to quit-she wasn’t worried about him asking for anything unreasonable. The cameras were watching. Liam loved stirring up trouble, but he wasn’t about to make an impossible demand on camera. So she’d agreed.
Seeing that she wasn’t kicking him out, Liam let out a quiet breath of relief.
