Chapter 141 I Only See Them as Friends
“Please, be only mine. No one else,” Shane whispered, his lips brushing Layla’s as he breathed the quiet plea into the narrow space between them.
Layla knew exactly what he meant. No feelings for anyone but him. And she had a pretty good idea who he was jealous of.
“Okay,” she agreed, her voice soft.
Shane’s tongue slipped inside instantly, tangling with hers. Layla had never known anything like it, and for a moment she couldn’t pull hers back.
“You taste sweet,” Shane murmured, finally pulling back just enough to speak. He looked at her, his eyes warm. “My Layla is so sweet. No wonder other guys are always looking your way.”
Layla couldn’t help but give him a look. “Stop that. The only one I see looking at me is you.”
Shane pulled her closer, nuzzling her hair. “Well, I’m your fiancé now. It’s my job to look.”
Layla gave his side a light pinch and snuggled deeper into his arms. “Enough. Let’s sleep.”
Perfectly content, Shane tightened his hold, resting his chin on her head and closing his eyes.
They lay there quietly, but sleep wouldn’t come. He was buzzing, but a thread of worry ran through it.
“Layla.”
“Sleep!”
“Okay.” Shane went quiet.
But it only lasted a minute. He stopped talking, but he started planting light kisses on her forehead.
Just as she was about to drift off, he’d kiss her awake again.
Finally, Layla opened her eyes and gently pushed his face back. “What is it, Shane?”
He flinched, thinking he’d annoyed her. Seeing she just looked tired, he relaxed.
“I’m scared,” he admitted, his voice low.
“Of what?” Layla asked.
“That tomorrow you won’t like me anymore.”
“I signed the contract.”
“A contract is for actions, not feelings,” Shane said, pulling her even tighter. “So many people like you now.”
Layla’s ear was pressed to his chest, and she could feel his heart beating a little too fast. Suddenly, she understood his fear.

Chapter 1411 Only See Them as Friends
“And who are so many people”?”
Shane sat up abruptly, bringing her up with him. “Layla, you’re playing dumb!”
“I want to hear you say it. Who’s making you feel insecure?”
“George,” Shane said after a pause, meeting her gaze. Then he added, quieter, “And Liam.”
Layla’s fingers, resting in her lap, twitched slightly..
She couldn’t deny it. Fighting side-by-side with Liam today, and seeing George appear to save them… i had done something. Made her heart race.
That whole “adrenaline makes the heart grow fonder” thing is real, isn’t it?
That spike of shared fear had shifted her perspective. George’s usual sharp tongue, which normally grated on her, today she could even see why his fans found his blunt, prickly charm appealing.
And Liam, who usually got on her nerves within minutes-sitting around the table tonight, joking and laughing with everyone, it had felt… easy. Nice. His teasing hadn’t annoyed her at all.
She had to admit, going through a near-death experience together had changed how she saw them.
But Shane was right here. It had been over a month on Planet A13. His hair, uncut, was a little longer.
When he ducked his head, his bangs fell over his eyes, hiding his expression. But she could feel the fragile tension coiled inside him.
She took his hand. “I don’t have those kinds of feelings for them. I admit I don’t dislike them anymore. But to me, they’re in the same category as Seren, Blaze, and Avery.”
They were friends. Companions. Not potential mates.
But Shane, who could be brilliantly sharp one moment, chose now to be incredibly dense. The look on his face was pure, wounded betrayal.
“So you like Blaze, Seren, and Avery too!”
Layla stared, momentarily speechless at his logic. She had to bite back a sharp retort.
