Chapter 140 I Want to Get Married
Shane realized he was starting to lose control.
He wanted more.
He deepened the kiss, parting her lips to taste more of her.
The kiss grew hungrier, more intense, until they were both breathless. Shane leaned his forehead against Layla’s, their noses touching, sharing the same frantic, heated air.
“Your heart is beating so fast,” Shane murmured, his voice low. “So is mine.”
This was all new to Layla. She bit her lower lip and gave a small nod.
“Your eyes are a little red,” he said.
Layla replied, “Your lips are a little red.”
Shane’s eyes lingered on her lips. Layla’s lips were slightly swollen and wet, gleaming in the low light. The sight stirred an almost uncontrollable urge in him to bite them.
Shane was nothing if not honest with himself. He never hid his feelings or denied his wants. If he wanted to do something, he did it. That was just who he was.
So he kissed her again.
This time, he was more practiced, gentler, but the raw possessiveness was barely contained. Males had a natural talent for this sort of thing.
The first kiss, Layla could handle.
By the second, her legs were feeling a little weak.
By the third, Shane had to carry her to the bed.
He leaned on his side next to her, his body casting a shadow over hers. His eyes traced her swollen, trembling lips, her damp eyes, the reddened corners, the teardrops clinging to her lashes. He swallowed hard.
Layla never thought of herself as the shy type. But under Shane’s intense, hungry gaze, she couldn’t help the heat that rushed to her cheeks.
The raw, unbridled longing was stifled.
He lowered himself slowly, half his weight resting on her, and buried his face in the crook of her neck. “I want to get married.”
Layla couldn’t help a soft laugh at his words. She knew exactly what he meant. It wasn’t just marriage he wanted right now. He wanted more.
But he was choosing a gentler way to say it, out of respect for her. She appreciated that.

Chapter 140 I Want to Get Married
“We’ll get married when the show is over,” Layla said.
If you haven’t changed your mind by then.
“You mean it? You won’t go back on your word?” Shane lifted his head, his eyes locking onto hers intently.
Layla nodded gently. “I mean it.”
“No, I don’t trust it. You’re not reliable,” Shane declared.
He scrambled off the bed, went to the storage chest, and rummaged around until he found a piece of paper and a pen. He came back, lay on his stomach on the bed, and started writing.
Curious, Layla leaned over to look. Shane was drafting a contract. “You said I had no sense of contract before. Why are you making one now?”
“No contract is better than no promise at all,” he stated matter-of-factly.
Layla was amused. “You really don’t trust me? You need a contract to feel secure?”
Shane gave a very serious nod. He read over the contract carefully, made sure there were no mistakes, and signed his name with a flourish. Then he handed the pen to Layla. “Sign.”
Layla gave him a look that was half exasperation, half fondness. But she took the pen and signed her name. She had a feeling that if she didn’t, Shane wouldn’t let her sleep tonight.
Shane watched her hand like a hawk until her name was fully on the paper. Then he snatched the contract away as if afraid she’d change her mind. “It’s official now, right?”
“Right, right,” Layla said, rolling her eyes. She turned over and settled back into her spot.
Shane turned his back to her and fiddled with something for a while, carefully hiding his precious contract. He even glanced back at her once. “Don’t peek.”
Layla sighed, “Should I turn around?”
“Yeah, that works,” Shane agreed.
Layla dutifully turned to face the wall.
Finally satisfied, Shane tucked the new contract away beside the old one. He hid both deep inside the lining of an unused garment, at the very bottom of his suitcase.
Layla listened to the rustling sounds behind her for what felt like a long time. “Are you done yet?” she finally asked.
“Yeah, all done!” Shane said quickly. He rolled over in one smooth motion, pulled her into his arms, and settled her against his chest.
Layla thought he was using her as a pillow.
“Sleep.” Shane said, covering her eyes with his hand to block out the soft glow from the glowgrass and lampgrass.
