Chapter 143 A Bad Feeling
The second the door opened, everyone turned to look.
Blaze glanced at Layla, then quickly looked away, his face turning red all the way to his cars.
Avery greeted her calmly. “Morning.”
Layla smiled back, “Morning. You guys got here early.”
Seren’s eyes went wide. He pointed at Layla’s neck. “You’re having an allergic reaction! There’s a bunch of red marks on your neck!”
Avery reached out to stop him, but it was too late.
“Huh?” Layla looked down, but she couldn’t see her own neck. “Really? I did feel a little itchy this morning…”
Shane jumped to his feet. He walked over to Layla, and under the pretense of adjusting her collar, cut her off, “Why didn’t you sleep a little longer? You were so tired yesterday.”
Layla shook her head. “I already slept in too long. Why didn’t you wake me when you got up? Everyone’s here, and I’m the only one who stayed in bed.”
“I wanted to let you sleep,” Shane said, a small, natural smile softening his face.
He didn’t smile often, and Layla stared for a second, captivated by how good it looked on him.
“Go inside. Liam brought a huge wild boar this morning. Yates can’t handle it alone. Go help him.
“Sebastian and the others are here too. They went to chop wood, move dirt, and gather dry grass. We’ve got a lot of people to feed today, so you’ll have your hands full, Layla.”
Before Layla could say anything else, Shane was already ushering her back inside.
Layla thought Shane was acting a little weird today. The old Shane wasn’t usually this gentle.
Maybe it was because they’d finally told each other how they felt yesterday. She didn’t think too much about it and headed into the kitchen.
Inside, Yates was busy scraping the hair off the wild boar.
Layla took a look—it was huge, just like Shane said. Yates was really struggling, sweat dripping down his forehead.
“Let me take over. You take a break,” Layla said, taking the combat knife from Yates.
Yates didn’t dare look at Layla. He kept his head down and hurried out. “I’ll… I’ll go get a drink of water.”
He practically ran out of the kitchen.
Oh my god! What did I just see!
Layla and Prof. Slater are so bold! We’re still on a show!

Chapter 143 A Bad Feeling
[Everyone! Gather ’round! Let’s toast Prof. Slater and Layla! Congrats on the wedding and the wedding night!]
[Holy crap! No wonder Layla slept in. Must’ve had a long night!]
[Damn it! Why can’t I see! Why! Why!]
[Aren’t I a premium VIP? Why can’t I watch this?]-
[It’s age-gated. Are you underage?]
[You’re an adult-did you see anything?]
[Their room didn’t have a Vanguard last night.]
[I never would’ve guessed Prof. Slater was like this! Oh my god, Layla’s neck! I can’t even look!]
Yates sat outside for a while, chugging three whole cups of water, before he slowly stood up and went back to work outside.
That left Layla alone in the kitchen with the massive boar.
With so many people to feed, she decided to just boil the meat. They’d have a simple, filling meal of meat and broth. Too bad she didn’t have any pickled veggies-if she’d known Liam was bringing a boar, she would’ve started some last night.
The yard outside seemed a lot quieter now.
When George arrived with seawater, he noticed everyone had stopped talking. Even Seren had shut up- and that was super unusual.
He nudged Seren’s shoulder. “What’s up? Did Avery glue your mouth shut?”
Seren, who’d just heard from Avery that the marks on Layla’s neck weren’t an allergy but a sign of couple stuff, was kicking himself for being so clueless earlier.
He didn’t even look up at George-he just pointed toward the stone shelter. “Layla’s awake.”
“So she’s awake. What’s the big deal? Did she tell you to shut up? In all the time I’ve known you, only Avery has ever told you to be quiet. I’ve never heard Layla say a word about it,” George said.
Avery, who was teaching Blaze how to make mud bricks, looked up at that. “Why don’t you go inside and see for yourself?”
