Chapter 17 Cutting Down A Tree
But the materials for making clothes weren’t hard to find here. He’d try later.
[So doting! So sweet!]

[Let me be blunt. Can we just let Prof. Slater out and let me take his place for a few episodes?]
[Who wouldn’t want to be treated like this by Layla? A domineering female lead who appears annoyed yet goes along with everything. Beast God, grant me a powerful mate!]
[Only you desperate losers would worship a toxic waste who can’t do anything for herself.]
[Here come the bitter fans again. Don’t you have your own idol to watch? Did your precious Stella get eaten by wild animals?]
[You toxic waste fans have such foul mouths. Did you know? George has already gone to Stella, and he brought her a gift!]
[George? Have you seen Layla give him the time of day? He has nowhere else to go. If he dares come near Layla, watch her slap him silly.]
Layla didn’t care about the comment wars.
Actually, she hadn’t even turned on her comment projection. After finishing her potato, she grabbed her knife and ventured deeper into the jungle.
Not far into her journey, she paused to glance back at Shane, who was lost in thought by the fire.
She almost told him to be careful, but given their relationship, she held back and walked away.
[Was Layla about to say something?]
[She’s keeping her distance! Layla, what are you doing? You’re the rightful heiress to the Grant family, and Prof. Slater is your mate. Why are you pulling away?]
[Prof. Slater is great, but Stella’s fans are insufferable.]
[Stella is nothing but a thief and a bandit!]
Bamboo was easy to find. It was suitable anywhere in the
grove.
But finding a tree that met her needs was harder.
After wandering for a while, Layla found a thick tree that required two people to encircle it.
“You’ll do.” Layla raised her knife and got to work.

[No way! How does she keep blowing my mind like this? That tree is massive. How is she going to cut it down with a little knife? She’ll be at it until dark!]
[As much as I want to believe in her, that tree is way too thick!]
To the viewers, it looked massive. To Layla, it was barely acceptable.
In her hands, the knife proved more efficient than an axe. With the blade sinking into the trunk, the comments momentarily paused before resuming rapidly.
The Vanguard interface was now completely devoid of Layla’s figure, entirely flooded with shocked comments from netizens.
She pulled out the knife, striking again next to the first mark, hitting precisely.
[Her precision is insane! She’s definitely trained for this!]
Strike after strike, each time the blade sank into the trunk, leaving a deep gouge.
The blade was only seven inches long, and each time it sank all the way in.
By the time the viewers had gone numb, Layla had worked her way around the tree. A ring of cuts encircled the base.
But even so, it wasn’t enough to bring down a tree this size.
[This isn’t going to work. Maybe they should have Prof. Slater come and headbutt it.]
[Is that a reasonable suggestion?]
No need for Shane. Layla transformed into beast form, leapt halfway up the tree, and then transformed back into human form to kick the trunk with all her strength.
The trunk swayed under everyone’s gaze.
[Holy shit! Layla! What are you doing?]
[Is that how you use beast form?]
She couldn’t fly in human form, so after the kick, she quickly shifted back into her bird form, stabilized, flew to the same spot, shifted again, and kicked again.
On the eighth kick, a loud crack echoed through the forest.
[It really broke!]
[Layla, you’re my goddess!]

The tree crashed to the ground with a thunderous noise.
Shane had just finished firing the cups and plates and was drying two new clay pots by the fire when he heard the sound. His head snapped up.
