Chapter 178 Shifting Allegiances
After joining the show, she’d changed somewhat, but the change had gone in a direction he didnt want
Her favorite mate had become Shane.
Still, one thing was certain. Stella couldn’t beat Layla.
And right now, his interest in Layla far exceeded his interest in Stella.
He had made an offhand comment, but it stirred up quite a reaction.
The comments on Vanguard were telling.
[What? General Hartwell, say that again. Who are you not interested in? Stella? Aren’t you Stella’s mate? You dare say you’re not interested in her? Then who are you interested in?]
[Don’t tell me it’s Layla. General Hartwell, look me in the eye and say that again. Have you switched sides? Are you into Layla now?]
[Damn it. I misjudged you completely! Did you even consider Stella’s feelings?]
[I really misjudged you! Liam! You’ve utterly disappointed Stella!]
[It’s over. Stella saw the live stream. She’s crying! I can’t take this. I’m going back to comfort Stella!]
[Liam, you’re done. You have no chance left. None! You’re just like George. You’ll never get Stella’s forgiveness in this lifetime!]
“You really don’t like her?” Layla asked in surprise.
She wondered what had gone wrong.
In the original book, Liam, though never Stella’s most favored, had never, not once, entertained a single thought of leaving her.
Prince Oliver had wavered at times. Liam had been the most steadfast of all.
How can he suddenly claim he doesn’t like her?
Has the plot shifted?
“I don’t like her.”
Liam was too resolute. The way he said he didn’t like her was even more firm than when the original book had him choosing Stella.
A thoughtful look crossed Layla’s face. Seeing it, Shane’s heart trembled. He tugged her sleeve. “Layla?”
“Hm? What is it?”
“What are you thinking about?” Shane’s voice carried a trace of careful hesitation.

Layla didn’t catch the undercurrent. But to soothe Shane she said, General Hartwell rally in fick Be he was madly in love Now he says he’s not.
Liam was speechless. Is Layla insane? Can’t she read between the lines?
Indeed. Shane squeezed Layla’s hand, taking the knife from her. “Are you tired’ Go rest a bit 11am and 1 will handle this.”
Layla didn’t pretend otherwise. She was a little tired.
Blaze had been watching the drama from the sidelines. He more or less figured out what was going on scene was no place for him. He picked up a basin of butchered meat and headed inside to find Hanna
He might as well use the ready-made excuse.
Once Blaze left, only Shane, Liam, and Layla remained in the yard.
The atmosphere didn’t lighten. If anything, it grew heavier.
Liam watched Shane, poised as if facing a formidable enemy. They faced off in front of Layla for a moment. In the end, he took the military knife Shane extended toward him. “Fine. I’ll handle it.”
He chose to back down rather than clash further.
That evening, everyone finally enjoyed the barbecue they had anticipated.
Layla started as head chef, but soon Shane took over.
Everyone knew Shane was a fast learner, but no one expected him to be this fast.
After watching Layla twice, he could handle it himself. The first couple of batches weren’t great, either undercooked or burnt, but eventually, under Layla’s guidance, he found his rhythm. The flavor became excellent.
At the very least, he conquered everyone’s stomachs.
And “everyone” wasn’t just the people present. It was the viewers watching the live stream too.
[Wait, wasn’t this supposed to be a survival show? Aren’t they supposed to be miserable, skipping meals. gnawing on roots and tree bark? Why is it that now, by comparison, I feel like the one on the survival show? Ms. Myers, say something!]
[It smells too good. And Layla’s still saying the seasonings are incomplete? If this is what she makes with incomplete seasonings, what happens when she has everything?!]
