Chapter 204 The Arrival of George
“Why wouldn’t she like me?” George’s voice exploded from outside the cave.
Before the words finished, he was already striding in, jabbing a finger at Liam. Liam! I hear you’re in danger and drop everything to come save you, and here you are badmouthing me in front of Layla! You despicable scoundrel!”
Getting cursed out to his face didn’t bother Liam.
But getting caught trash-talking behind someone’s back and being called out on it in front of Layla, that was mortifying.
This was the absolute last scene he wanted her to witness.
George strode over to Layla and pulled her hand, drawing her slightly toward himself.
“Don’t listen to his nonsense. I may be sharp-tongued and quick-tempered, but I’ve never schemed agains you or tried to force you off the show. If he can badmouth me behind my back today, he’ll do the same to you tomorrow. You’d better think this through.”
Liam watched Layla with plaintive eyes. “I wasn’t finished talking yet.”
“Don’t say another word. What could you possibly say that’s worthwhile?” George didn’t give Liam room to speak.
He pulled Layla out of the cave. As they passed Shane, he paused for a moment. Seeing no objection, he tugged her straight outside.
They walked briefly from the cave entrance to the water’s edge. He stopped, examined Layla for injuries, then glared at her and snapped, “Are you an idiot? What were you thinking coming down here?”
Layla froze for a moment at his outburst. Just as she was about to retort, she met George’s slightly reddened
eyes.
The words died in her throat.
“Are you… angry?”
“Me, angry? Why would I be? What’s there to be angry about? You’re about to accept Liam’s pursuit. You’ve never spared a thought for me.”
“Why would I spare a thought for you?” Layla shot back, quick as reflex.
George’s eyes went wide. Disbelief flooded his face. “What did you say? Why wouldn’t you spare a thought for me? I like you this much, and you can’t see it? Layla, are you blind?”
Layla was stunned speechless. “What did you say? You like me?”
Het heart was racing uncontrollably.
George said he likes me Was I imagining things?

“No, it’s not that I just haven’t processed it. But why? Why would you like me?”
“Why wouldn’t 1” He shot back “Do you know that I was the first one to like you?”
“I didn’t know.” Layla nodded honestly

It wasn’t that she felt nothing. She’d even liked him a little
“But, didn’t you like Stella before”
“That was years ago. George replied, raising an eyebrow. “But I’ll admit it, I did think Stella was alright back
then.
“You admit it?” Layla was surprised.
Shane claimed he didn’t care for Stella beyond her looks and found their marriage of convenience acceptable due to her suitable family background.
Liam justified the arrangement as beneficial for the Grant family, emphasizing its convenience.
Only George confessed to having a slight crush on Stella
“Why wouldn’t I admit it? I’m twenty-six. What’s wrong with liking someone?”
“No.” Layla shook her head.
