Chapter 221 Bow Down
“Liam?” Layla narrowed her eyes.
“I…” Liam’s face was also flushed. He stammered, “I was just thinking, if we used Starcore Essence to upgrade the Hartwell Legion’s mecha, the first one should be called ‘the Layla.”
Layla was speechless.
She was truly overwhelmed.
She found it absurd that a love-struck fool and a workaholic were both so entangled with her.
It would be a miracle if their minds could sync up.

“Enough!” Layla exploded. She could feel her temples pounding. “You two! Right now! This instant! Only one thought allowed in your heads!”
“What thought?” they asked in unison.
Layla stared at them, emphasizing each word almost as a shout. “Think about how to bow your heads to me!”
Liam and George were both stunned speechless by her outburst.
The cave fell into a silence so complete that only the soft crackle of the campfire remained. The atmosphere had veered into the deeply surreal.
George reacted first. He blinked those beautiful eyes and stared at Layla with pure disbelief. “What did you say?”
Layla’s expression remained cold as she reiterated, “I said, you two. Right now. This instant. Only one thought allowed in your heads. Think about how to bow your heads to me!”
Liam’s mouth opened, then stayed open.
He’d been raised with the most orthodox Imperial military education. Bowing was reserved for martyrs and the sovereign.
Layla wanted him to think about this. He was momentarily lost for words.
George’s brain, as ever, operated on an entirely different frequency. After his initial shock, the corner of his mouth crept upward entirely without permission.
“Bowing? So what? Anyone can do that.” He muttered it under his breath, sneaking a sideways glance at Layla, his voice picking up an edge of roguish amusement. “Maybe you should sit a little higher? I won’t be able to do it properly otherwise.”
The vein at Layla’s temple started pulsing again.
“Shut up!”
She had no time to spar with George.

Chapter 221 Bow Down
“Listen carefully!” She intensified her tone, her gaze sweeping across Liam and then George I don’t care what’s in your hearts. Right now, your objective is perfectly unified. It’s all about the bow! Don’t think of the dress or the ‘Layla’ mech! Just picture your heads hitting the ground! Got it?”
Liam silently averted his eyes from her face. The tips of his ears felt hot.
“Understood.” His answer was muffled.
George also put away his irreverent look and nodded, uncharacteristically earnest.
Under the blast of Layla’s tirade, their chaotic thoughts had, in fact, been blasted clean away. All that filled their minds now was that single, absurd, slightly humiliating image.
“Good.” Layla looked at their properly chastened expressions, and the fire inside her subsided a degree.
She placed her hand on Shane’s chest again and said firmly, “One more time.”
The three closed their eyes once more.
This time, the atmosphere in the cave was palpably different.
Layla could feel that the mental energy coming from Liam and George no longer swarmed with selfish stray thoughts.
Liam’s mental force, still carrying a soldier’s sharp edge and rigid hardness, had now sheathed every blade. It held only a pure, stubborn obedience to command.
George’s was like a sea, deceptively calm on the surface, beneath, currents still churned, full of reluctance and contrariness, but forcefully tamped down.
Through Shane as a conduit, Layla felt as if she could touch the core of their minds.
Her own mental force stretched out like a thread, winding around the other two strands of power.
Then, she began to guide.
“Focus on me.” She chanted it silently in her mind, making her own image the final anchor point.
The three mental forces slowly converged within Shane’s body,
“Ugh!”
Shane, cradled in her arms, let out another muffled groan. His body trembled.
Layla’s heart clenched. She nearly opened her eyes.
