Chapter 223 Back From the Dead
(It’s moving! The black screen is moving!]
[Am I seeing things?]
[Are the technicians fixing it? Don’t raise my hopes just to dash them!]
In the next second, the dark screens blazed to life. Clear footage filled every viewer’s display.
A vast cavern glowing with ethereal light. A roaring waterfall curtain as the backdrop, like something from a fairy realm.
In the center of the frame, Layla, covered in dust, but with a face too composed to be dulled, a crystalline stone flickering in her hand.
Leaning against her, Shane, pale as death but with a smile in his eyes.
Beside them, Liam, radiating iron-blooded military austerity, blade in hand, guarding their flank.
And George, soaked through, river weed still clinging to his hair, poking Liam’s arm with a look of wonder, clearly saying something.
All four were alive!
The live chat across the Star Network exploded as if a nuclear button had been pressed.
[Ah! They’re alive! My boys are alive!]
[I’m crying! That scared me half to death! Twelve hours! Do you have any idea how I spent those twelve hours?]
[What is that? What is Layla holding? A miracle? What kind of place is this?]
[Does the Grant family feel the sting of this? Grant Group Legal Department, care to explain? Didn’t you say they were dead? Weren’t you about to declare them dead?]
[The most epic face-slap in history! This is a knockout!]
[Did anyone else notice George’s outfit? Is he going fishing? True to his title as the Merman Prince, his skills are top-notch!]
Inside the cave, the four had no idea the world outside had turned upside down.
“Now that the signal’s back, we should leave,” Layla said, carefully tucked the Starcore Essence into her innermost pocket.
“I’ll help him.” Liam stepped forward. Together with George, they braced the still-weak Shane between
them.
George grumbled, “We should’ve left ages ago. This place is damp and moldy.”
He complained, but his movements were steady, carefully avoiding Shane’s injuries.

Chapter 273 Back From the Dead
1
The four walked out of the waterfall. Moonlight spilled over them. draping them in a silver veil
Several Vanguards immediately buzzed down, circling them affectionately, the red dots on their cameras blinking rapidly.
Layla lifted her head and looked at the nearest Vanguard.
She didn’t say a word. She just watched it, calm and level. In her eyes, no joy, no fury, just a scrutiny that. pierced straight through the lens.
“Let’s go. Back to camp.” Layla pulled her gaze back and took the first step forward.
Just then, Liam’s Vanguard suddenly projected a small holographic screen in front of him. Star network trending headlines were scrolling furiously across it.
“The Grant Family Demands Layla Be Declared Dead.”
“Production Team Accused of Negligence.”
“Stella’s Heartbroken Post, Layla, Where Are You?”
Liam’s stride halted. The aura around him went instantly cold.
“Layla. Look at this.” His voice was heavy.
Layla leaned over and swept her eyes across those glaring, poisonous headlines.
George saw them too and immediately exploded. “How dare they? Cursing us dead? Are the Grant family tired of living?”
Shane, leaning on Liam, patted his arm gently. “Don’t get angry yet. The bigger the spectacle they make, the louder the slap when we return alive.”
Layla said nothing.
In the apocalypse, anyone who schemed against her this brazenly would be dead already.
In this world, there were apparently more civilized and more disgusting ways to play.
Layla tugged at the corner of her mouth into the faintest smile.
“Let’s go. We’re heading back.”
She was going to see, when these “dead” people stood alive and well before everyone, exactly what expressions would bloom on those faces.
Especially her dear little sister’s.
That, she was sure, would be quite the surprise.
The main camp under the night sky was brilliantly lit, more bustling than it had ever been.
