Chapter 257 Lurking Danger
Sitting up quietly, Stella gave Carson’s sleeve a soft tug.
Eyes flying open instantly, his irises glinted faintly in the pitch-black darkness, a trait inherited from his wolf shifter lineage.
“I’m so hungry,” she whispered in a teary, pitiful tone.
Carson rubbed his temples with quiet helplessness.
He’d done nearly all the camp labor that day while Stella spent her time chatting and laughing with the other two males.
He hadn’t felt the slightest twinge of hunger himself, yet here she was complaining relentlessly.
Still, as the alpha of his wolf pack, he couldn’t bear to leave those under his care starving.
He rose to his feet with a quiet sigh. “I’ll head out and see if I can find anything edible.”
A hidden smile tugged at Stella’s lips, masked perfectly by feigned worry.
“Isn’t it far too dangerous to go out this late?” she asked.
Her fake concern, broadcast live for all viewers to see, sparked immediate mockery in the stream chat.
[That act is so transparent! If she truly feared danger, she’d just skip one meal instead of sending him out.]
[She’s only pretending to care just to make poor Mr. Fields fetch food for her.]
[Go find food yourself! You have hands and legs just like everyone else. I can’t stand her entitlement.]
[Mr. Fields is far too kind-hearted. I’d leave her to fend for herself without a second thought.]
Carson slipped on his jacket and stepped out of their underground camp without another word.
Oliver lay pretending to sleep in the corner, hearing every word of their exchange perfectly clear.
He’d researched Planet M715 thoroughly before arrival, and trouble was inevitable for Carson tonight.
Deeply attuned to danger from her apocalypse-era survival instincts, Layla opened her eyes in an instant.
Sitting upright in bed, she pricked up her ears, listening intently to the night sounds outside.
Beneath the rustle of wind through leaves came the low, heavy breathing of some large wild creature.
Alarm spiking in her chest, she grabbed a dagger and peered out into the darkness.
Two figures darted swiftly through the distant jungle shadows.
Layla’s sharp eyes caught clear sight of one human-shaped figure being chased by a massive predatory beast.
Has another contestant wandered out hunting and gotten targeted by a wild animal?
