Chapter 262 In Trouble
Like the stream audience, Oliver remained seated in the corner, watching the drama unfold with quiet amusement, choosing not to interfere.
“You’re a female. Stay here and rest. I’ll handle the foraging alone.” Carson shook his head firmly, turning down her offer without hesitation.
Stella’s lips curled into a secret smile.
Just as I’ve expected-Carson still cares enough to protect me from hard work.
“Alright then. We’ll be right here waiting for you.”
She’d never had any real intention of venturing into the dangerous wilderness anyway.
Convinced Carson held no lingering resentment toward her, Stella sauntered over to Bruce’s side, putting on an overly affectionate act.
“You must be worn out from building our camp furniture. Let me wipe the sweat off your forehead for you
Bruce leaned into her gesture with obvious enjoyment.
From across the camp, Carson caught sight of the display, his brow furrowing faintly-not out of jealousy at Stella’s closeness with another male, but irritation at Bruce wasting precious lumber on shoddy, useless craftsmanship.
Carson crouched down to slice off two large hare legs, preparing to leave again.
Panic flashed across Stella’s face, and she blurted out a question, “Where are you taking those hare legs?”
Carson shot her a cold sideways glance, his tone unyielding.
“The wood for your sleeping mat came from Layla’s supply. I made a deal to share a quarter of our hunt with her.”
Bitterness and stubborn defiance crossed Stella’s face instantly. “She has no way of knowing we caught this hare. There’s no need to keep your end of the bargain.”
Live stream viewers exploded in outrage at her selfish remark.
[Unbe]
[Unbelievable-how can she say something so shameless?]
[I only thought she was petty before, now she’s just plain foolish and cruel.]
[Not only does she refuse to keep her word, but she’s trying to make Mr. Fields break his promise, too.]
[But that prey belonged to their team to begin with. Layla clearly only got her lumber by relying on a native creature-doesn’t that make her pretty despicable too?]
[She effortlessly produces a heap of lumber and then demands a quarter of others’ hard-earned prey? She might as well just rob them!]
[Totally team Stella here-no need to reward people who take advantage of everyone else.]
Emboldened by the handful of viewers siding with her, Stella readied herself to persuade Carson further.
However, he simply ignored her lingering calls, turning on his heel and walking away with the hare’s legs in hand.
Stream comments filled with mockery flooded the screen.
[Poor Mr. Fields, completely fed up with her nonsense.]
[How can someone be this shameless and entitled? It’s mind-blowing.]
[Carson would be so much happier joining Layla’s group. Everyone there pitches in and works hard; no one lets one person carry all the burden.]
