Chapter 281 Pointed Inquiries
Bright and endearing, Layla’s smile sent the live chat into a frenzy of comments.
[Layla’s beauty is unmatched. I can’t believe I once thought that scheming Stella was pretty.]
[Let’s be fair-Stella’s looks aren’t exactly lacking.]
[Looks mean nothing when your heart’s rotten to the core.]
[Enough already, this is Layla’s stream. Why even mention her? That girl’s practically a criminal celebrity now.]
A faint smile tugged at Layla’s lips as she scanned the chat threads mentioning Stella.
It was perfect timing, for the question she planned to ask revolved entirely around Stella.
Jason had prepared a list of interview prompts, leading off with the most provocative one of all.
“Among the five males staying by your side, who holds the biggest place in your heart?”
The live audience erupted instantly.
[Hahaha, I’ve been dying to know this too!]
[It’s obvious Shane is her favorite. He was the only one who stood firmly by her side from day one.]
[I’m voting for Shane, too, but George is such a sweetheart-who could resist his playful, clingy charm?]
[Carson gets my vote. He’s so reliable and protective, and Layla was the one who invited him to join their group.]
[At the end of the day, only Layla gets to decide.]
Without a moment’s hesitation, Layla answered plainly.
“I care for all of them equally, but if I had to name someone irreplaceable, it’s definitely Shane. He trusted me and stood by me when I was at my lowest. That bond of mutual support is one you can never easily replicate.”
Every one of the five men across from her wore a distinct expression.
Guilt lingered in Carson’s eyes; he’d once turned Layla down to stay with Stella.
Anger and jealousy stirred quietly in George and Oliver’s hearts.
Only Liam wore an easy smile, unsurprised by her choice.
Pink flushed Shane’s cheeks, and a smile crept onto his lips unbidden.
Layla’s acknowledgment was all he needed.
As long as she was happy, nothing else mattered to him.

Chapter 281 Pointed Inquiries
Jason prepared to move on to the next question, but Layla raised a hand to silence him.
Confused, he fell quiet at once.
Resting her chin in her palm and twirling a finger idly, she turned the tables with a calm inquiry. “Your questions are fun enough, but there’s something I’m far more curious about. What’s become of Stella? We were promised answers quickly, yet we’ve heard nothing at all.”
Jason’s smile froze solid, beads of cold sweat rolling down his forehead.
He stammered awkwardly, “We don’t have any updates, either. Their side hasn’t sent over any official word.”
“Which side exactly?” Layla pressed without hesitation.
The show’s viewership spiked sharply in an instant, and viewers flooded the chat with their own concerns.
[They claimed she had a mental health disorder-what exactly is the diagnosis? Why hide it from everyone?]
“Does having a mental illness get you a free pass from interstellar justice?”
“Lock that murderess away! Exile her to a desolate planet for good!”
Trapped between a rock and a hard place, Jason was at a loss.
The Grant family hadn’t given him a reply yet-what could he say? Offending Layla was out of the question, but offending the Grant family was even worse.
He felt like the filling in a sandwich, unable to win no matter what he did.
Jason gave Layla a pleading glance, seemingly begging for a reprieve from her questions.
Layla, however, remained calm and composed, showing no intention of letting Jason off the hook.
Letting Jason slide meant letting Stella evade justice, and that would be a disservice to herself.
Seeing Layla’s indifferent look, Jason knew she wouldn’t let this go easily.
Finally, he let out a long sigh, his tone laced with helplessness. “We can place a live call to the Grant Family right now and ask directly.”
Layla nodded in satisfaction.
It was exactly what she wanted-cornering the Grant family so they couldn’t hide behind silence.
“Perfect. Let’s make the call.”
Catching them off guard was ideal.
Even if they were watching the live stream, they had no reasonable excuse to decline the video connection.
