The comment section buzzed with speculation about the sudden cold atmosphere between the two, overshadowing Stella’s fans in the comments.
Layla could tell Shane was angry. She thought they might be headed for a silent standoff.
Surprisingly, it was Shane who initiated the conversation.
“What are you doing?” he asked.
Layla wasn’t unreasonable. They worked well together, even if they disagreed about Stella. She could live with that. “A bow and arrow.”
“Didn’t you say you wanted me to make it for you?” Shane paused in his work, staring at her.
She looked up. She could have sworn she saw hurt in his snake eyes.
The bow and arrow were intended for Liam. If Stella learned that the weapon that hurt Liam originated from Shane, it could jeopardize Shane’s life by Stella’s side.
“Don’t get involved,” Layla cautioned. “I’ll have you make it when we need to hunt later.”
She twisted some hemp rope into a bowstring, tying it to the fire-bent bow.
Shane wasn’t socially perceptive, but he had learned to read between the lines with Layla.
“This bow won’t break through Liam’s defenses.” He walked over, took the bow from her, and adjusted the curve. “This angle maximizes propulsion. But…”
“But what?” Layla asked. Watching him seriously adjust her bow, the annoyance she’d felt earlier faded.
Strangely, she couldn’t remember why she was upset in the first place, so she let it go.
“With that, you won’t be able to kill Liam,” Shane added.
Layla looked surprised. “Who said I wanted to kill him?”
Does this professor only think about violence?
“Liam hasn’t tried to kill me either,” Layla clarified.
Liam had caused her no small amount of trouble, bringing in a pack of wolves and lions to attack her in an attempt to force her off the show.
But he hadn’t tried to kill her. He’d held back.

She simply wanted to confront Liam, to show she was not to be pushed around, and to curtail his ulterior motives.
Beyond that, she wanted nothing to do with him.
Once the show ended and she sold Planet A13, she’d have enough money for a carefree life. The main characters could do whatever they wanted.
She had no interest in being the villain who made the heroine look good.
“Teaching him a lesson will suffice,” she concluded.
Shane nodded, handing back the adjusted bow. He crouched and picked up her knife, carving
an arrow.
“An arrow like this has barbs, which will cause severe injury, and removing it will tear the wound larger,” he explained, handing the finished arrow to Layla.
Inspecting it closely, Layla couldn’t help but comment, “You are amazing.”
Shane cautioned, “But remember, Liam is a general. If you actually hurt him, the military might not take it well.”
“If a high-ranking general were taken down by a female like me with such inferior weapons, his status would surely be questioned,” Layla retorted.
Shane remained noncommittal.
Layla had a point, but military men weren’t always reasonable.
While they continued to refine the bow and arrows, the comment section exploded.
[Did I hear right? Layla is going after General Hartwell!]
[And Prof. Slater is helping her optimize her weapons.]
[What is she thinking? Just because she pushed General Hartwell back a bit, does she really think she can take him on? That’s the empire’s top admiral we’re talking about!]
[She’s going too far. He’s a general. Isn’t she afraid the Military Department will come after her?]
[To be fair, General Hartwell started it. He sent those wolves and that lion. If Layla weren’t capable, she’d be out of the show already. Someone tries to get you eliminated, you fight back. It’s normal.]
[We in the military aren’t that petty. If she injures General Hartwell, we’d celebrate her victory.]
