Chapter 303 Crash the Meal

Stella blinked, offering no answer to the question posed, and instead turned it back on Layla. “You dont accept my apology, Layla?”
Her look was one of such manufactured innocence that an outsider might think Layla had been bullying
her.
Layla was all too familiar with Stella’s tactics.
During the live stream, that seemingly sincere apology managed to sway some viewers. It painted Stella as less of a villain, even making her come across as earnest and likable.
She had actually gained a handful of new followers from it.
That was the nature of the online world; people formed snap judgments based on short clips, rarely digging deeper.
A single moment could be enough to spark sympathy. With her deceptively harmless appearance, Stella easily won the misplaced pity of those who didn’t know the truth.
Meeting Stella’s gaze, Layla said coldly, “Since you’re back, focus on the program. No more schemes. Otherwise, how long do you think your mother can keep protecting you?”
Stella’s face drained of color at those words.
A flicker of fury twisted her features before she quickly reassembled her pitiful mask.
“You’re right to scold me, Layla. I understand,” she murmured meekly.
Layla’s eyes drifted to the box resting on the table, her expression unreadable. “As for this gift, take it back. Whatever it’s for, I don’t want it.”
The firm rejection sparked a hint of panic in Stella. “Mom insisted I bring it. Please, don’t make this difficult for me. If you truly dislike it, just set it aside in a corner. You can return it to her after the show ends. Okay?”
Her insistence sent a ripple of suspicion through Layla.
Why is she pushing so hard? Is there something wrong with this gift?
Narrowing her eyes, Layla finally gave a curt nod. “Fine. I won’t put you on the spot. We’re about to have dinner now.”
The dismissal was clear, but Stella’s audacity knew no bounds.
Swallowing hard, she fixed pleading eyes on Layla. “My current place is a dump, completely unlivable. Layla, could I just stay for one meal? I’ll pay you back later, I promise.”
Even Layla was taken aback.
How can anyone have such thick skin?
Knowing full well their history, she still had the nerve to invite herself to dinner.

Chapter 303 Crash the Meal
A slow, deliberate smile curved Layla’s lips. “What? Aren’t you afraid I might poison it?”

Stella hurriedly arranged her features into an expression of trusting obedience. “Layla, you would never do something like that.”
“You used to say I was vicious, that coming from the backwoods meant I had no good in me.” Layla recited Stella’s past words verbatim, without a trace of emotion.
Stella’s composure faltered, a shadow of what might have been regret crossing her eyes. “I was foolish back then. After everything that’s happened, I know you’ve actually been more than fair to me.”
Watching the scene unfold, viewers in the live chat were baffled, comments flying fast.
[What’s going on? Why is Stella back early?]
[Probably just here to stir up trouble. The family of six was having a nice meal, and she crashed it. The nerve!]
[She tried to kill Layla before, and now she’s all “Layla” this and “Layla” that.]
[If anyone’s crazy here, it’s Stella. No sane person pulls this kind of crap.]
The chat was a chorus of condemnation, yet Stella remained unnervingly composed, her gaze locked on Layla with dogged hope.
It was as if, short of being physically thrown out, she was determined to stay for that meal.
Irritation flared in Layla, and she was ready to have Stella removed.
But just then, Oliver gave her arm a subtle squeeze.
Turning, Layla frowned at him in question. Oliver merely offered a genial smile and addressed Stella, “That bad, huh? Well, take a seat then.”
The others stared at Oliver in stunned silence.
George looked ready to flip the table. “Oliver, have you lost your mind? Why let her stay? So she can hurt Layla again?”
Oliver remained unflappable.
