Layla and the other males exchanged glances and nodded with a smile.

Yates looked genuinely happy to finally contribute.

Layla decided to give him something to do-and a reason to leave the room. “Can you go make us some ginger brew first? We all got soaked out there. Don’t want anyone getting sick.”

Yates nodded eagerly and shut the door behind him.

Layla pulled out the mech fragment and handed it to Liam.

The moment he saw it, his expression went grim. “Where did you find this?” he asked.

It was rare to hear Liam sound that serious.

Layla paused for a beat and said, “In the Starcore Ore mine.”

Liam’s gaze darkened. He ran his thumb over the marking on the fragment, his voice low and laced with disgust.

“This is the insignia of the interstellar pirates,” he said.

Layla and the others were stunned. The interstellar pirates had practically vanished after the last joint military crackdown. No one expected to find traces of them on Planet A13.

Shane had already confirmed the mech armor was fused with Starcore Ore. That meant the group who had driven out the Wormhole Queen was most likely the interstellar pirates themselves.

Layla’s chest tightened. The pirates were ruthless. And that interstellar fugitive from before- he’d been hunted down specifically because he used to be one of them.

Planet A13 was a lot more dangerous than they’d thought. But they couldn’t go running to the production team about this.

The Starcore Ore mine had to stay under wraps. If word got out, every greedy fortune hunter within reach would swarm the planet. Layla’s whole plan would fall apart.

And if the Grant family ever found out the Starcore Ore mine existed, things would get ugly fast.

“We have to keep this quiet. Not a single word gets out. And that chunk of Starcore Ore Carson brought back needs to be hidden too,” Layla said, her voice barely above a whisper.
