Chapter 332 I’m Not That Kind of Guy
Layla was surprised. She hadn’t expected Emily to be that generous.
She’s really just giving away something this nice?
Liam saw the look on her face and chuckled. “For someone with her background, a blade like this isn’t a big deal. The show doesn’t allow firearms, so this is basically the next best thing.”
That made Layla feel a little better. Hunting was easy for them, and she’d felt kind of bad taking such a good knife in exchange.
If what Liam said was true, she wouldn’t stress about it. She could always share some of the bigger game they caught later.
Yates came back quickly with steaming bowls of ginger brew for everyone. He blinked, his face full of hope. “This is my first time making it. You guys have to try it.”
Layla glanced at his cager expression, then down at the ginger brew in front of her. It was nearly golden. She hesitated. “How much ginger did you put in?”
Yates thought about it and said, “It’s supposed to be really strong, right? So I used ten chunks.”
Layla’s heart sank. She’d gone through hell to dig up that ginger, and she barely had any to begin with.
Yates saw her face fall and his smile vanished. He asked quietly, “Did I mess it up?”
Layla forced a bright smile and patted his soft head. “No way. Ginger brew is supposed to be strong,” she said.
Then she downed the whole bowl in one go. The familiar sharp warmth of ginger hit first, then a brutal wave of heat that burned like hell going down.
And Yates had added way too much salt.
She choked it down, forced a grin, and gave him a thumbs up. “Not bad,” she managed.
Right then, George spat his mouthful out with a loud cough.
Layla spun around to look at him.
Yates asked in a panic. “Did you burn yourself?”
George wanted to say it tasted like garbage, but he caught Layla’s wide-eyed glare. He shook his head quickly and said. “Yeah, too hot. Gonna go get some water.”
He set down the bowl and bolted out of the room.
Yates started heading toward Liam and Carson with more bowls, and Layla jumped in front of him.
“Why don’t you go tidy up the kitchen? I’ll handle dinner and feed these two myself,” she said.
Yates scratched his head. He figured Layla just wanted to take care of them personally, so he trotted off happily.
