Chapter 341 Helping Layla Was Helping Themselves
Shane’s face was tight with a kind of anger none of them had ever seen on him before. If something could make Shane, of all people, this furious, then it had to be bad.
Layla stared at the egg in Rowan’s hand, a slow, menacing smile tugging at her lips. “She wants to hurt us. Let’s show her what happens when that crap comes back around.”
She shot George a look.
George caught on fast and clapped his hands together. “You want to give it back to them?” he asked.
Layla gave him a thumbs-up. “Smart man.”
George shook his head and scratched the back of it. “But, uh, how exactly do you want me to help with that?”
He could tell from the way Layla was looking at him that she needed him for something specific.
His confused expression made Layla laugh. She leaned in close to his ear and whispered, “Just cause a little chaos.”
George’s eyes went wide.
Layla watched him stand there like a deer in headlights and sighed. She spelled it out for him. “I mean stir things up. Give them something else to worry about.”
George finally got it. Stella’s cabin was built from mud bricks. A surge of water would tear it apart. Layla was asking him because of his water abilities.
George rubbed his hands together, a giddy look on his face like he was about to pull the world’s most satisfying prank.
Layla worked out the plan fast.
Emily, Rowan, and Jacob traded glances off to the side.
Then Jacob stepped forward and said quietly, “We’re coming with you.”
Something like this could just as easily land on their doorstep next. Helping Layla was helping themselves.
There was still one problem. Layla’s eyes drifted to the closed door.
Those two pirates are still here. We can’t all leave. If they wake up and manage to get loose, we’re screwed.
She turned to Oliver. “You and Rowan stay here and keep an eye on them,” she said.
Oliver nodded without argument. He glanced at Rowan, who didn’t say a word either.
Emily had told him to follow Layla’s lead, so that’s what he’d do.
