Chapter 340 Another One of Stella’s Setups
Layla looked at Emily, surprised. Truth was, Layla hadn’t planned on telling the production team right away either.
She’d thrown it out there to see where Emily stood. She hadn’t expected Emily to shut it down, and that made her curious.
Emily spoke up before Layla could ask, “The production team can’t handle another disaster right now. If they find out about this, they’ll pull the plug on the whole show overnight.”
From the sound of it, Emily didn’t want the show to end. Layla wondered why she’d make that call.
Emily wasn’t stupid. She knew exactly what Layla was thinking. She dropped her voice and said, “If we leave the show, we won’t be able to find out what the Grant family is really up to.”
Layla frowned. “What does this have to do with the Grant family?”
Seeing the confusion on all their faces, Emily glanced at Rowan.
Rowan nodded and stepped in to explain, “After that attack on us, we started looking into Stella. The two guys with her have some pretty interesting backgrounds.”
He lowered his voice like he was afraid someone might overhear, and everyone instinctively leaned in closer.
“They both took part in some kind of drug trial. The pharmaceutical company behind it was hit with heavy penalties by the Interstellar Tribunal for violations not long ago. The people in charge were already locked up in an interstellar prison.”
Layla hadn’t expected Leonard and Julian to have such a twisted history. A thought clicked into place. “Let me guess. That company was actually controlled by the Grant family.”
Emily exchanged looks with the others and nodded. “Yeah. Exactly.”
And just like that, Layla understood why Emily and Stella had fallen out in the original story. With Emily’s personality and her profession, there was no way she’d tolerate something like this.
Layla nodded, testing the waters a little. “So that’s why you started drifting away from Stella?”
Emily nodded, then shook her head, and finally let out a heavy sigh. “It’s more than that. Stella never touched the family business. But the person she’s become-she’s nothing like who she used to be.”
