Chapter 351 We’re Friends
Though their tent had been savaged by hyenas, Jacob proved surprisingly handy with a needle and some leather strips. He stitched the hide back together into a serviceable shelter.
Emily returned from a hunt just then, a rabbit dangling from one hand.
As she spotted Layla waiting at the edge of their camp, a flicker of surprise crossed her features before melting into a warm smile.
“Layla! What brings you here?” Emily called out, her tone friendly.
Turning with a bright smile, Layla gave a playful wink. “I’m here to invite you all to a celebration, of course.”
Catching her meaning instantly, Emily tied the rabbit’s legs with twine and slung it over her shoulder.
With a nod toward Jacob and the others, she grinned. “Let’s go. Time to freeload off the richest person on the planet.”
Layla certainly qualified. On Planet A13, she had become the undisputed resource baron, amassing stocks of nearly everything one might need.
Her ability to refine salt alone made her invaluable for the long haul.
Observing the easy camaraderie between the two women, the live chat viewers couldn’t help but marvel.
[Who would’ve thought? Stella’s old friend is now practically besties with Layla.]
[Someone like Stella never deserved a friend like Emily anyway.]
[Honestly, Layla and Emily are pretty well-matched. Both are capable, strong women.]
[Layla can’t hold a candle to Emily!]
This was Emily’s Vanguard stream-most of them were her fans. The comparison sparked instant friction in the chat.
Seeing the argument brewing, Layla slung an arm around Emily’s shoulders. “Hey now, no fighting. We’re all friends here.”
Emily glanced up at the hovering Vanguard camera, offering a gentle, placating smile. “She’s right. Layla and I get along just fine. No need for drama.”
Her open acknowledgment of their friendship sent the chat into a frenzy.
[A powerhouse alliance! Imagine how smooth things would be if they teamed up for survival.]
[I’m already drafting the fanfic.J
[But why did Emily really drift apart from Stella? It seems so sudden.]
[Probably saw through the act. You think someone like Stella can keep up a façade forever? Emily must’ve figured her out.]
Reading the speculation. Emily chuckled softly, though a cold glint flashed in her eyes.
She didn’t consider herself a paragon of virtue, but the things Stella’s family was involved in were beyond her moral line.
