Chapter 352 Feasts
Their overlapping, enthusiastic reports made Layla’s head throb slightly.
Emily, witnessing the scene, burst out laughing, bending over and patting Layla’s shoulder. “Never took you for a master of motivation!”
Rubbing her temples, Layla leaned closer, whispering conspiratorially, “Motivation? More like they’re all trying to outdo each other to get my attention.”
Emily’s eyes widened in amused realization. “Is that how it works?”
She glanced back at Jacob, who stood stoically nearby.
“I don’t engage in such petty competition,” Jacob stated flatly.
His declaration was perfectly timed for Yates’ entrance.
The young man emerged beaming, carefully holding a bowl of his homemade steamed egg custard, his expression proud yet shy.
“Layla, I made this for you. Would you like to try?”
Noticing Emily, he quickly added, “Emily, you too, please.”
Emily smiled, reminded of a younger cousin back home.
Jacob’s eyes practically bulged at the sight of her appreciative grin.
In two quick strides, he snatched the bowl from Yates, tipped it back like a shot of whiskey, and gulped the entire custard down in one go.
Smacking his lips, he announced, “Tastes… average.”
A stunned silence fell, broken by a single snort of laughter that erupted into a full chorus of merry sounds from the group.
The live chat exploded alongside them.
[Who was it that said he’d never get jealous?]
[My god, the jealousy is stronger than George and Oliver combined!]
[LOL! Try feeding my mate? I’ll eat it all myself!]
The joyful noise from Layla’s yard carried on the wind, reaching another camp some distance away.
Stella’s fists clenched, knuckles white.
Just you wait. Your time for tears will come.
Shoving down the bitter envy, she turned to Julian. “Where’s Leonard?”
“Hunting, Julian said coolly.
If not for the Grant family’s promised money and medicine. Julian would have ignored her entirely.
With a dissatisfied sniff. Stella went back to whining to Ciara. “Mom, Julian is awful Can’t you assign me someone else?”
Ciara’s voice was gentle but firm. “No. He’s highly skilled. He’ll protect you. You don’t have to like him; just stay near him.”
Resigned. Stella checked her own Vanguard feed.
