Chapter 353 Test
Layla and her group escorted Emily’s group to the edge of their camp.
Just as they were saying their goodbyes, a heated argument erupted in the distance.
“I brought that thing down! What gives you the right to take it?”
“Did you land the killing blow? You were running like a scared dog. If I hadn’t stepped in, you’d be dead by now!”
Layla frowned, exchanging a look with Emily. “Doesn’t that sound a bit like Leonard?”
Emily had caught it too. She glanced toward the commotion. “Shall we go see what’s going on?”
Layla gave a nod.
She wasn’t one to stick her nose into others’ business, but a dispute over a hunt piqued her interest.
They followed the voices to a stretch of grassland.
There, Julian and a male from another group were in a shouting match, each tugging on a leg of a massive crocodile.
Layla raised an eyebrow.
Wait, those things live in the Southern Sector. What’s it doing here?
Their arrival didn’t go unnoticed. With their sizable crowd, Leonard spotted them immediately.
His face darkened the moment he saw Layla.
Without a word, he yanked the enormous reptile free, hefted it onto his shoulder, and tried to make a quick exit.
The male from the other group wasn’t about to let him walk away.
He blocked Leonard’s path and raised his voice toward the newcomers. “Perfect timing! Let them decide who’s in the right here!”
Curious, Layla stepped forward. “What seems to be the problem here?”
Before Leonard could speak, the other male burst out, his voice thick with frustration, “I spent forever ‘luring this croc over here, planning to use the terrain to take it down. I was still leading it when this guy popped out of nowhere, killed it, and claimed it was his! Now he’s trying to steal it!”
That adds up.
Leonard merely sneered, his gaze icy as it swept over Layla and her companions. “I made the kill. That makes it mine.”
His sheer audacity almost made Layla laugh.
She eyed the crocodile slung over Leonard’s shoulder That catch could feed a group for four or five days. easy.
Not to mention the hide-useful for all sorts of gear.
Narrowing her eyes, she retorted, “You swoop in for the easy kill after someone else does all the hard work, and you have the nerve to call it yours?”
Leonard’s jaw tightened at her words. His knuckles whitened around his burden, a clear threat of violence simmering just below the surface.
