The noise stirred him from his stupor.

Roger lifted his head slowly. His clouded eyes flickered with a brief spark of recognition at the sight of Nick and Gavin, then quickly dulled back into cold indifference.
Nick said, hauling him to his feet with an uncharacteristic urgency, “Roger, we’re getting you out of here.
We need to move now. Your brother Leonard’s our best shot-he can hide us until the boss arrives.”
Roger trembled, his lips moving soundlessly for a moment before he managed to grip Nick’s wrist, his yes bloodshot.
You’ve seen Leonard?” His voice was a rasp.
Since Roger joined the interstellar pirates, their contact had been reduced to sporadic money transfers.
The Grant family affair had forced a recent, brief communication, but they hadn’t met face-to-face.
Yeah, we know where he is,” Nick said.
Without another word, the three of them set off at a brisk pace toward the muddy hut where Stella and Leonard were holed up.
Vick was banking on one thing: blood ran thicker than water. Even under the Grant family’s thumb, Leonard wouldn’t turn his own brother away. He’d give them shelter.
Unbeknownst to them, every step they took was part of Layla’s design. From the moment of their escape, hey had been playing into her hands.
On the roof of her own cabin, Layla stood watching their shadowy figures navigate the camp under the faint moonlight. A cold smile touched her lips.
Carson stood beside her, his gaze equally icy.
The plan was unfolding perfectly.
‘It’s almost time. They’re nearly at Stella’s place,” Layla murmured, her smile widening.
She and Carson descended, moving silently toward the same destination.
Nick, Gavin, and Roger had reached the vicinity of the muddy hut.
Gavin was peering around, trying to gauge if Leonard was inside.
Seizing the moment. Layla drew a sharp breath and raised her voice in a piercing shout that shattered the night’s quiet.
“Everyone up! Interstellar pirates are in the camp! They’ve freed the viper beastkin! Stop them before they get away!

Her cry echoed, instantly stirring the settlement.
Contestants burst from their cabins, weapons in hand.
Crew members and patrols came running from all directions.
The trio froze, their faces darkening with shock.
Gavin instinctively tried to pull the others into a retreat, but Nick held him fast.

“Running’s suicide now! We’re surrounded! Leonard’s our only chance!” Nick fissed, his voice low and frantic.
He didn’t wait for an argument, dragging Roger and Gavin toward the hut’s door.

As they ran, he yelled, “Leonard! It’s Nick! I’ve got your brother Roger!”
Inside the mud hut, Stella was seated by her bed, venting her frustrations into a mirror.
Ciara had rebuilt the shelter, but the sting of Layla’s mockery and the barrage of negative live chat comments still festered.
Leonard and Julian sat nearby, both grim-faced.
Leonard’s clothes were still damp from the earlier dousing. A darker, more volatile fury simmered in his eyes-the side effects of the berserker rage serum were starting to show.
The shouts outside made them all start.
Leonard shot to his feet, body rigid.
“What’s wrong with you? What’s all that racket outside about?” Stella snapped, irritated by the interruption.
Leonard ignored her, striding toward the door.
Julian lunged, grabbing his arm. “Don’t be rash! It’s chaos out there. Nick and Gavin are pirates! If anyone links you to them, we’re all done for!”
‘He’s my brother!” Leonard snarled, wrenching free.
His eyes were bloodshot, and there was a frantic edge to his voice. “Pirate or not, I have to see him!”
