Chapter 370 Drunk
George muttered under his breath, “So childish.”
Watching from nearby, Layla hid a smile behind her hand.
For all their bickering, the distance between them seemed to be shrinking.
Shane sidled up beside her. “They’re more alike than they think. Might actually get along one day”
Layla nodded in agreement.
Just then, Jacob returned, cradling a familiar ceramic jug. “Brought you more of that brew you liked.”
Layla’s face lit up as she accepted it. “Thanks! I’ve been meaning to ask how you make it.”
Her own attempts at fermentation on this backwater planet had met with dismal failure. She either produced weak swill or ended up with a fuzzy mold takeover.
Jacob’s expression turned serious. “Brewing good stuff here on Planet A13 isn’t easy. The conditions are all wrong.”
They huddled together, discussing techniques in low, conspiratorial tones.
Finally, Jacob revealed the secret. “Main thing is, I got my hands on some proper grain fermentation starter from a star-trader. Old-world recipe stuff. Cost me a pretty penny.”
Layla’s expectant smile froze.
So much for high-tech solutions. It all comes back to the basics.
She chuckled, rubbing her forehead.
If she had some grain fermentation starter on hand, she could make a batch of fermented sweet grain mash
too.

“Any chance I could buy a bit of that starter from you?” she asked.
“Sure thing. I’ll fetch some later,” Jacob agreed.
Pouring a measure of the amber liquid into cups, Layla released a rich, potent scent into the room.
Shane’s eyes fixed on the drink with unmistakable interest.
“Thinking of trying some?” Layla asked, remembering his last tipsy episode.
Shane gave a hopeful nod.
Seeing the plea in his eyes, Layla relented. “Alright, just a taste.”
She poured a small portion for him and herself, letting the others serve themselves.
The moment the liquor hit her tongue, regret followed.

Shouldn’t have given him any.
This batch was strong, closer to whiskey than ale.
A glance at Shane confirmed it.
A deep blush had already spread across his cheeks, his lips slightly parted.
He looked utterly transformed-the usually reserved professor now soft and flushed.
Layla’s throat went dry.
He looks… surprisingly tempting like this.
The urge to tease this vulnerable version of him was irresistible.
Reaching out, she gently pinched the tip of his nose.
Shane, caught off guard, momentarily forgot to breathe.
When he finally did, his eyes were teary. “Layla, are you picking on me?” he mumbled, voice slurred and wounded.
The plaintive, softened tone sent a peculiar flutter through Layla’s chest.
The live chat erupted once more.
[Shane is adorable!]
[Oh my stars, a tipsy professor! If I can have a man like him, I’d eat Layla’s cooking every day for this!]
[Greedy much? You want the food and the man? I’d settle for the stew!]
[Watch out, George and Oliver are loading their jealousy cannons!]
Chuckling at the comments, Layla guided Shane to lean against her shoulder and let him rest there. She sipped her drink and chatted with the others.
Slowly, the potent alcohol began to weave its spell on her, too.

A warm haze clouded her mind, and she hiccuped softly.
Around Layla, most had succumbed.
George and Oliver, in a stunning turn of events, were slumped together, sharing a maudlin moment.
“Y’know why I can’t stand you? You keep using my moves on Layla! What’s left for me?” George slurred.
