Chapter 426 Pay for Her Cruelty
Sla waved him off impatiently and went back to stacking her blocks.
Shortly after Julian left, Stella’s comms device buzzed.
She looked at Ciara’s face on the screen and spoke in a sweet tone. “Mom.”
Ciara smiled with apparent relief, “You look like you’ve been doing well these past few days. Your complexion is far rosier than before.”

Stella said, “That’s all thanks to all the supplies you snuck in without the production team finding out.”
Ciara nodded in satisfaction. Then her expression turned dark. “That infuriating Scarlett. She said she would select new male participants for the show, yet piled on endless restrictions. Three out of the fiye men I arranged for you have already been rejected.”
Stella’s heart skipped a beat. She leaned closer toward the screen. “Mom, I’m struggling badly out here. I need at least one more man to get things done. Julian alone isn’t enough.”
Ciara held up one hand, telling Stella to calm down. “Relax. If I couldn’t handle something this small, what kind of mother would I be?”
Reassured by Ciara’s confident words, Stella let her guard drop.
Her voice took on a whiny, pleading lilt. “Mom, I’ve got a plan. I’m going to get rid of Layla during my birthday feast, when everyone from the show gathers.”
Cold ruthlessness flickered across Ciara’s eyes. “She does need to be dealt with, but she must not die.”
Stella’s expression grew odd. “Mom, are you feeling soft-hearted toward that bitch?”
After all, Layla shared blood with Ciara.
Ciara shot her a reproving glance. “Silly girl, don’t be ridiculous. She might be holding the Starcore Essence. If she dies, tracking it down myself will be far too much trouble.”
As soon as Stella heard that, she immediately felt relieved.
She was glad Ciara felt no mercy for Layla. “Alright, Mom. I’ll adjust the dosage. I’ll paralyze her and make certain she stays alive.”
Ciara nodded, satisfied with her answer.
Back in Layla’s wooden cabin, a heavy silence hung in the air long after Julian departed.
Carson was the first to break it, his voice low and deep. “Layla, what do you intend to do?”
Layla’s eyes glinted, and a faint smile tugged at her lips. “We play her at her own game. I suspect Ciara will never allow Stella to kill me.”

Liam prompted. “How exactly will we counter her plot? We still don’t know where she plans to slip in the poison.”
Layla snapped her fingers as she recalled details from the original story. “If I remember correctly, Stella’s birthday is right around the corner.”
She had guessed Stella’s scheme perfectly.
Stella would invite everyone over under the pretense of her birthday.
With so many witnesses around, it would be nearly impossible to trace the crime back to her once she struck.
Upon hearing this, a flash of anger crossed Liam’s eyes. “She’s unbelievably bold if she really goes through
with this.”
She plainly holds none of us in any regard.
Layla turned toward George. “George, catch more snakehead fish for me for the occasion.”
Layla’s topic shifted so abruptly that George was momentarily at a loss. Confusion showed in his beautiful
eyes.
Layla chuckled and tapped his forehead with her finger. “Why do you always look so slow-witted? We can’t show up to someone’s birthday celebration empty-handed.”
She looked over at Carson. “Have you given Stella fish before?”
Carson nodded. “I traded some to her from you.”
“Which part of the fish does she like best?” Layla asked.
She trusted Carson’s sharp observation to know Stella’s preference,
Stella’s beast form was a swan, so fish naturally appealed to her.
Upon hearing Layla say that, Carson stroked his chin and fell deep in thought.
After a moment of careful recollection, he spoke with certainty. “The two tender cheek cuts on either side of the fish’s head. She always cats those first.”
Layla smiled happily, “Perfect, I’ve got it.”
Her gaze drifted to the vial of antidote they kept on-site. A cold smile curved her lips.
Stella had pushed things too far, and Layla would show no mercy in return.
It was time for Stella to pay for her cruelty.
Stella soon sought out Scarlett and told her about her upcoming birthday.

Scarlett crossed her arms and watched her with an amused, knowing look. “You want to hold a birthday
ebration, so you expect your mother to send supplies over?”
Stella’s eyes lit up, and she nodded eagerly.
Then she asked cautiously, “Is that allowed? I’ve never spent my birthday away from home before.”
Scarlett could tell Stella was hatching some scheme, and curiosity stirred about what she was planning.

She broke into a bright smile. “Sure.”
Stella’s eyes lit up the second Scarlett granted her request.
She put on a sweet-looking act, thanked Scarlett, and then skipped off the show set entirely.
