Chapter 430 Make a Fool of Herself

Julian caught her signal right away. He picked up a glass of red wine and walked over to Layla. “Thanks for coming to the birthday party. Cheers to you.”

The wine had a rich, bright-red hue. It looked ordinary, but poison had already been mixed into it.

Julian stood with his back toward Stella, out of her line of sight.

He quickly made subtle eye contact with Layla to warn her the drink was tainted.

Layla let out a quiet laugh. She gave him a reassuring look and took the wine glass directly from his hand/ “No need for thanks.”

She did not drink right away. She set the glass off to one side and turned her gaze toward Emily.

Just then, Emily sliced off two tender pieces of fish cheek meat. She placed them on an elegant white porcelain plate and carried it over to Stella. “I know you love fish-cheek meat. I cut these just for you-go ahead and try them.”

Stella broke into a wide grin as she stared at the appetizing pieces of fish.

She assumed the Grant family’s birthday celebration had finally made Emily see how powerful she was, so Emily was trying to make peace with her.

Stella held onto that thought and did not grow suspicious.

She took the fish from Emily and smiled sweetly, “Thank you. You really are my best friend-you know exactly what I like.”

Layla and Emily watched Stella use her knife and fork to cut the fish into small bites slowly. Stella finally put the meat into her mouth.

The fish was soft, boneless, and melted on her tongue, carrying a faint herbal flavor.

It tasted so good that Stella’s eyes fluttered shut with satisfaction.

“This is such amazing fish,” Stella blurted out in praise. “I’ve never had anything like it before.”

Stella had watched the chefs prepare it. They had barely used any seasoning besides salt.

She believed that wonderful flavor came naturally from the fish itself.

A faint, almost unnoticeable smile played across Layla’s lips as she watched Stella enjoy every bite.

Those two pieces of fish cheek had already been soaked in poisoned liquid.

The dose was not huge, but it was more than enough to land Stella in serious trouble.

The other contestants saw how much Stella was enjoying the meal and crowded in around them.

Stella seethed with barely hidden jealousy.

This was supposed to be her birthday party, yet all the praise went to Layla.

She picked up her own glass of red wine and walked over toward Layla.

Stella draped an arm around Layla’s shoulder, putting on a warm, affectionate act. “Layla, you guys found such fantastic fish-that’s really impressive. Here’s to you. Hope everything goes smoothly for you for the rest of the show.”

In her mind, Stella pictured what would happen once Layla drank the wine. Layla would end up completely paralyzed, unable to do a single thing for herself.

Stella planned to pretend to help her by using the Grant family’s medical resources for treatment.

She would then pressure Layla into telling her where the Starcore Essence and energy field were hidden.

Even if she got no answers, Layla would still publicly collapse from poison in front of viewers all across the galaxy. Everyone would watch her make a fool of herself.

Stella could barely hold back her grin as she thought all of this through.

Layla saw every selfish thought plainly written across Stella’s face. She rubbed her temples and played along.

She picked up the poisoned wine glass. “In that case, I can’t very well turn this down.”

With that, she tilted her head back and drank every drop of the doctored red wine.

Stella almost laughed out loud. She forced her expression neutral and finished her own glass of wine as well.

She waited eagerly for Layla’s poisoned reaction to kick in.
