Chapter 46 My Heart Wants to Keep You
Stella took another step forward. She crouched down, grabbed Liam’s sleeve, and looked up at him with tears in her eyes.
She knew her strengths. No male could resist her when she looked this tearful.
Especially Liam. He did have feelings for her. He was just angry.
Angry that she kept trying to push him toward Layla.
Angry that she’d taken matters into her own hands today. But that was okay. She could smooth things over.
Not only that, she could make his feelings for her even stronger and make the netizens hate Layla even more.
She held onto Liam’s sleeve and sobbed, “I really don’t know what to do anymore.
“Liam, I used to think you were all my mates. I thought I could be spoiled and selfish with you, and that you’d all indulge me. I said I wanted to give you back to Layla, but deep down… I hoped you’d choose me.
“You have no idea how happy I was when you came for me. But I’m not the Grant heiress- Layla is. You belong to her, not me. I shouldn’t have dared to hope… But I…”
Stella’s voice trembled along with her body. She couldn’t even stay crouching and sank to her knees, looking utterly broken. “But I’m a person too. I have feelings too.
“My morals and my brain tell me to give you back to Layla, but my heart wants to keep you.”
Stella suddenly tightened her grip. She pulled so hard that Liam swayed. Tears streaked her face, her eyes and the tip of her nose red from crying, a truly pitiful sight.
Her voice grew sharper, each word a tearful plea. “What did I do wrong? The mix-up at birth wasn’t my fault! I’ve tried so hard to set things right. What more do you all want from me?
“Prof. Slater went to Layla. That day on the live chat, everyone said he went to find me. I said he should go to Layla, but in my heart, I couldn’t help hoping he’d come to me. I waited for him, looking my best. But in the end, all I got was news that he moved into Layla’s hut.
“When Carson and Oliver came to me, I was so happy. Especially when I told them to leave and they still wanted to stay by my side. I was so happy. I know it’s despicable. I’m like a thief. I stole Layla’s life, and now I’m stealing her mates.”
She turned to look at George.
George froze for a second, almost instinctively, but he didn’t look away. He stared down at her,

“The day George left, I couldn’t sleep all night. I could only tell myself this was for the best, that things were just going back to how they should be.”
She turned back to Liam. Her outburst suddenly faded. Her hair was a bit messy. She slowly lowered her head, as if all her strength was gone. Her voice was so soft, as if talking to herself, but perfectly picked up by the Vanguard.
“Yesterday, when you brought the jerky back for me, I was so happy. But today, when I saw the live chat explaining how you got it, I’ve been torn.”
She looked up at Liam, fragile and helpless, and slowly let go of his sleeve. “Liam, my mind is a mess. What should I do? Teach me. Tell me, what should I do?”
Stella’s sudden emotional outburst left Liam stunned. The viewers on the live chat who already liked her were even more affected.
[Actually…]
That single “Actually” almost set the chat on fire.
[Actually, she has a point. We’re all watching from above, telling her what she has to do. But the heart doesn’t always follow reason.]
[She grew up thinking they were all her mates. Then one day she finds out it all belongs to someone else. That’s got to be hard.]
[I think I get her behavior now. It’s the gap between what she should do and what she wants to do. She feels she should give General Hartwell and the others back to Layla, but in her heart… she’s seen them as her mates for so long. How could she just let go? That’s why she seems wishy-washy.]
[She really is in a tough spot. If it were me, I’d probably be worse.]
After all, she was a childhood star who’d grown up on screen. Many viewers had watched her grow, thinking of her almost like their own.
Watching her sit helplessly on the ground, gazing up tearfully with all her inner turmoil showing, their hearts softened at once.
George’s gaze wavered. Liam looked down at Stella. For a moment, no one spoke.
“Layla, I’m back!” Shane’s somewhat cheerful voice came from outside the gate, shattering the silence in the yard.
Stella acted as if she didn’t hear, sitting on the ground in a daze.
