Chapter 55 Prove That Women Were Not Deficient
By now, Liam regarded Shane as barely more trustworthy than Layla.
Layla seemed to read his thoughts. She lifted up the Vanguard and addressed the audience. “All of you tell him!”
[I can testify!]
[Me too. Honestly, science really does take you far.]
[I used to think Prof. Slater was lucky to end up with Layla. But after watching him build that refined salt apparatus from scratch, I finally get it-scholarship truly has its uses.]
[Still prefer Layla’s straightforward, no-nonsense methods, though. They’re satisfying.]
The chat had drifted off-topic, but Liam had gotten the confirmation he needed.
Learning that they truly produced their own fine salt only left him more confused.
Noticing the audience’s high regard for Shane, Liam’s gaze fell back on him.
Is my rival actually this capable?
No, there is no rival!
George had long since stood little chance. All Stella had left by her side were Liam, Carson, and Oliver. The other two would prove troublesome rivals.
As for Shane, he had completely bowed out. He was no longer a rival at all.
Still, Liam had to concede Shane was far more of a contender than he had assumed.
A genius mech engineer from Crownpeak University, the only professor with a lifetime honorary title-his renown was entirely well-earned.
Layla observed his shifting expressions. She had no idea what he was thinking, but it did nothing to halt her salt sales pitch.
“So? Will you make the trade or not?”
Shane picked up on Liam’s hesitation.
Even eighty pounds of meat for a bamboo tube of salt was no small price.
Recalling the reverse psychology Layla had used before, he spoke up, “Layla, give General Hartwell some time. Eighty pounds of meat is a major commitment. He cannot decide alone; he must return and consult Stella first.”
Liam shot Shane a glare.
Shane had always been such an upright, honest man. Now, after staying with Layla, he had grown cunning and sly.

He leaned in close to Shane and murmured low, “Stop learning from her. You’ll gain nothing of worth from
Shane ignored his provocation. “Will you trade, or not?”
Liam was seething with frustration.
If not for… I wouldn’t waste my time on Shane.
“I will return to discuss it!” Liam gritted out, turning to leave.
He could hear Shane quietly gloating to Layla behind him. “See? I told you he couldn’t decide for himself.
Liam stumbled slightly and made a hasty retreat.
Liam believed Layla had corrupted Shane, but she disagreed entirely.
Still, she knew keeping him by her side had been the right choice.
She had originally thought only coarse salt from seawater distillation would sustain them throughout the show.
She had never expected Shane to gather rare materials and build a complete refined salt system for her entirely from scratch.
The fine salt he crafted matched the production team’s supplies in quality perfectly.
More importantly, Layla realized the barren planet held far more usable resources than she had assumed. This meant Planet A13 was merely undeveloped, not worthless.
Even without discovering Starcore Ore, the world still held immense value for her.
In that moment, she abandoned any thought of selling the planet.
She wanted to become its planetary governor. She wished to watch it grow and flourish with her own eyes.
She intended to prove that women were not deficient, and in no way inferior to men.
Liam returned shortly after his departure. No decision on the salt had been made yet-he had only come back for the dried meat he had forgotten in his hurry.
“Still no conclusion after all this?” Layla said dismissively.
Liam shot another glance at Shane. “Carson has not yet returned. We make decisions together, so we must wait to discuss this with him.”
Layla scoffed and gestured toward the pouch on the table. “Take it and go.”
Shane gave an almost imperceptible nod of acknowledgment.
Liam grabbed the pouch and left without another word. He knew talking to them any longer would only wear him down.
