Beast Love Show: All For Her (by Sylvester Raven) novel Chapter 66

Chapter 66 A Secret Formula

Shane was silent for a moment, then gave a nod. “You’re good to me…”

Yates was still young, after all. Though he remained wary of Shane, the male had never harmed him. He had, been worrying over nothing.

The Empire had strict laws protecting the smaller, weaker beastkin from abuse by their stronger kin.

After all, the law of the jungle in the beastkin world wasn’t all that different from the natural world.

Cat beastkin, for instance, without legal restrictions, absolutely ate rodent beastkin.

Even now, with laws in place, some powerful beastkin still ignored them and preyed on the weak.

But Shane was a tenured professor at Crownpeak University. He might not see combat, but he held a military rank-a fact no one could argue with.

So even though pikas were on Shane’s menu, Yates figured the professor probably wouldn’t go that far. Certainly not on camera.

With that thought in mind, before Shane had even finished eating, Yates whisked away the empty bowl in front of him and trotted off cheerfully to wash it. “Prof. Slater, just wait for me. I’ll be really fast with the dishes.”

[I get where Yates is coming from, but honey… be careful. Prof. Slater doesn’t have much of a moral compass. If you did get eaten, I’d say you kind of had it coming.]

[Honestly, yeah. Yates, you think Prof. Slater is your size-a couple of bites of grass and he’s full?]

Some of the live chat had followed Yates here. Others were Layla’s and Shane’s regulars.

Regular viewers of this stream knew exactly how much Shane could eat-even if newcomers didn’t.

From his very first day on the show, when he ran into Layla, she’d already commented on his huge appetite.

Eight fish. Gone in one meal. After he moved into her cabin, no matter what his hands were doing, his mouth was never idle.

Today he’d had one bowl of soup. No way he was full.

Shane watched his bowl get stolen. He watched Yates’ cheerful retreating figure. Then he turned to Layla with a completely blank expression.

Even as oblivious as Layla could be, she finally realized-he wasn’t full.

But Yates clearly didn’t know Shane’s appetite. He hadn’t made much breakfast. The pot was just about

empty.

She gave Shane a reassuring look, went into the stone cave, and came back with a pack of jerky. “I’ll make stewed meat for you at lunch.”

That satisfied him. He took the jerky, pulled out a strip, and started gnawing.

“Bring back some wild greens and forage on your way.”

“You got it! Don’t worry. I know exactly which wild greens taste best!” Yates agreed happily.

“You’re great,” Layla praised him.

Shane’s face fell again.

She was always praising other people.

“Let’s go.” He turned and walked out.

Yates scurried after him, not forgetting to wave goodbye to Layla. “Bye, Layla! I’ll be back soon!”

[Gotta say… I’d pick the young one too.]

[If you’re gonna dream, dream big. I’ll take both.]

[I can’t fathom how great that would feel-one cold professor, one sweet puppy boy for me.]

[Cowards. I can picture it happening. Kick Layla out and give me her spot.]

After they left, Layla went back to building the treehouse, waiting for people from the other cabins to come trade for salt.

She wasn’t worried they wouldn’t come.

Unless they were idiots, they’d figure out which side their bread was buttered on.

Sure enough, just as she was fitting the door to Shane’s treehouse, Sebastian from Talia’s cabin showed up.

He stood outside the gate and let out a single “Woof.”

From up high, Layla spotted a large blackandwhite dog with saddlebags slung across its back, howling at the sky.

Traveling in beast form is faster than human form. I get it.

[Anyone else see Layla’s brain bluescreen for a second when she saw Sebastian?]

[Don’t blame her. Every time I see Sebastian, my brain bluescreens too.]

“Come in.”

Sebastian entered, circled Layla once, like a dog catching a scent, then shook himself, dropped the saddlebags on the ground, and shifted back to human form.

“You’re not as insufferable as the stories make you out to be.”
