Chapter 67 Five Hundred Pounds of Greens

Layla’s expression shifted slightly as she looked at Sebastian.

“Why are you looking at me like that? I’m trying to help you here!” Sebastian leaned closer and lowered his voice. “You don’t want to give it a try?”

“I don’t-”

“Don’t tell me you don’t want to. I know whether you want to or not.”

Layla studied his face carefully. He looked completely serious.

“That’s your boss.”

Sebastian, still in human form, threw his head back and let out an “Awooo.” “You just don’t know me very well.”

[To be honest, as Sebastian’s special assistant, I’d say I know him pretty well. And I still can’t follow his train of thought half the time.]

[That’s normal. Neither huskies nor border collies think like normal people. And he’s a mix, so…]

[Wait, isn’t this working hours? Is the executive assistant slacking off? So even corporate elites slack off?]

[Are you kidding? I’m tracking leadership’s every move in real time, handling public opinion, and stopping catastrophic PR crises! Alright, please don’t tell anyone.]

[Don’t worry. As long as you watch Layla too, we’re family.]

Meanwhile, high up in a palatial office atop a corporate skyscraper, Justin Brooks sat staring blankly at his communicator, watching the live stream.

The problem was that he didn’t watch Layla. So what now?

Well, no time like the present.

Fine. Starting now.

[Exactly. I’ve been saying for a while that Layla isn’t like the rumors say. Some people just hear a whisper and turn it into a hurricane. They don’t know the first thing about what really happened, but they jump on the hate train anyway. Those people are just miserable in real life, so they come online to feel important]

[Great minds think alike, Mr. EA.]

Justin glanced over at Harry Norman, who was buried in his work, let out a quiet snicker, and typed a line with lightning speed.

[Why so formal with “Mr. EA”? That’s so distant. Just call me Harry.]

Harry heard him snicker and looked up suspiciously. “What’s so funny?”

“Nothing. You sure you don’t want to watch?” Justin nudged his communicator toward him.

Harry caught one look at Sebastian’s face and jumped back like he’d seen a ghost, waving his hands wildly “Get that thing away! What’s wrong with you? Doesn’t he wear you out enough at work? He’s not even in the i office anymore, and you’re still watching his stream?!”

Sebastian, the subject of all this chatter from who knows how many people, clearly had no self-awareness. He gazed at Layla with utter sincerity, his voice dropping low, the coaxing tone unmistakable.

Layla said, “Not interested.”

I’m not lying to you. I’ve got connections.” Sebastian leaned in even closer. “Just sleep with all five of them while you’re on the show. Where are they gonna run after the show ends?”

Layla was genuinely curious now. “And where exactly would I get something like that?”

“Talent!” Sebastian puffed out his chest and lifted his chin high, looking quite proud of himself.

“Allnatural herbs. You can’t tell them from wild greens. Out here on a barren planet, surviving? Even if something happens, you just didn’t recognize the herb. Can’t blame you for eating something bad. They’ll have to thank you for helping them work off the effects.”

Layla gave him another look. “And what talent is this? You can identify herbs?”

“Me? No way. But our cow can!”

Sebastian saw nothing wrong with this and looked even prouder.

Layla was lost for words.

No wonder people say a border collie isn’t just a dog. This creature is something else entirely.

No wonder he made it to CEO.

“But this is a live broadcast.” Layla pointed at Vanguard, diligently doing its job nearby.

Sebastian’s eyes went wide as he stared at her in disbelief.

Just as Layla thought he’d learned his lesson and behaved himself, he said something she couldn’t argue against.

“You’re worried about that?”

For the first time, Layla was starting to think being good at reading between the lines wasn’t such a blessing.

Yes, in that instant, Layla understood exactly what Sebastian meant.

Before coming on the show, the original owner had done so many unhinged things trying to win those males back that normal people couldn’t even begin to understand.

When she’d first taken over this body, the live chat had been nothing but hate-the nastier, the better.
