Beast Love Show: All For Her (by Sylvester Raven) novel Chapter 70

Chapter 70 Smoked Meat Craving

No discussion.

Layla had a bad feeling about this. Something told her today was going to be eventful.

But the meat was already here, and she wasn’t about to turn it away.

“She’s your future mate, isn’t she? You didn’t clear it with her? Then yesterday, when you said you needed to go back and discuss it-who exactly did you discuss it with?”

“Carson and Prince Oliver. Stella’s not the only one in that cabin,” Liam said, completely unapologetic.

Layla frowned. Something felt off, but she couldn’t put her finger on it.

“Fine. Since you’ve all discussed it, let’s leave it at that.”

She entered the stone cave and returned with a bamboo tube of salt, filled evenly to the brim, not a grain

extra.

Liam frowned. “You couldn’t give me a little extra?”

“You couldn’t give me a little extra meat?” Layla shot back.

Liam pursed his lips. “What a sharp-tongued female.”

Layla wasn’t about to back down. “What a penny-pinching male.”

“You!”

“Do you know what you’re supposed to be doing?”

Both Layla and Liam turned at Shane’s sudden interruption.

Liam looked like he was about to choke. “Fine. I’m leaving, all right?”

Layla glanced between the two of them. For some reason, she got the distinct feeling they were hiding something from her.

“I’ll come back tomorrow for the jerky,” Liam said, and turned to leave.

Shane grunted in acknowledgment, then added, “Or I could have Yates deliver it.”

He nodded to himself afterward.

He was a genius!

This suggestion would both keep Liam from coming around so often and get Yates out of the house, leaving him and Layla alone together.

If that wasn’t genius, what was?

Liam gave Shane a long, meaningful look.

Shane stared right back without flinching.

Liam laughed at his sheer audacity, “There’s no personal grudge in this at all, is there?”

“And if there is?” Shane tilted his head. His pale green vertical pupils flickered in and out with human ones -uncanny and unsettling. “You have to admit, it’s a damn good decision.”

Liam was momentarily at a loss for words. “Fine! Have him deliver it.”

He turned to Yates, who was already hard at work. “Bring it over as soon as you’re done today.”

Yates was in the middle of cutting meat. He looked up with serious earnestness. “Don’t worry, General Hartwell. I work fast.”

Liam turned and walked out.

Layla watched his retreating figure for a moment longer.

Shane cleared his throat to draw her attention back.

“What?” Layla looked at him.

His expression was still sour, yet the sharp edge from his clash with Liam had faded. He merely looked… aggrieved.

“I’m upset,” Shane said.

Layla glanced at Yates, then back at him, asking silently.

“Yes.” Shane nodded.

Layla pressed her lips together. She didn’t think she owed him an explanation, but he looked so ridiculously pitiful right now.

“I’m not into him.” The words slipped out before she knew it, and she froze for a second.

Wait a minute.

That came out wrong.

She could’ve said Yates was a poor thing with nowhere to crash. She could’ve said he was handy around the place and pulled his weight. She could’ve said the kid was just plain obedient.

Literally anything but that.

Yes-she really wasn’t into Yates.

But the way she put it? That sounded an awful lot like a girlfriend explaining to her boyfriend why she was close with some other guy.

She and Shane weren’t like that. Not at all.

And yet-the moment the words left her mouth, the wounded look in his eyes faded just a little.

So maybe… it wasn’t such a bad way to put it after all.

Layla smacked her own forehead.

No! This wasn’t right.
