Chapter 74 Not Leaving

Shane got worked up, too. He stood up abruptly and walked right up to Layla. “You’re the one who wanted Yates to stay!”

“Yes, I did.” It was the first time Shane had ever stood this close to Layla like this.

And only now did Layla realize-this soft, clueless guy was actually pretty tall. A good head taller than her,

at least.

Standing in front of him, she barely reached his Adam’s apple.

“You want him to stay, but you’re not going to give him a place to sleep? Winter’s almost here. You want him to freeze to death?”

Layla thought back to what Shane had said yesterday. “But you said-”

[I know! He said Yates has fur, and he’s male-what’s there to be afraid of?]

Layla had come through a portal, after all. She didn’t actually know all that much about the Beast World.

The original owner’s brain had some knowledge tucked away.

But those years of struggling to survive had filled her head with tips on how to make her own life easier- not random facts about how other species got through the winter.

“I was wrong before,” Shane said. “This planet gets brutally cold in winter. Even if he’s male, he wouldn’t last.”

Layla said, “Oh.” She really didn’t have much common sense about this. If Shane said so, it was probably right.

“You make a good point. So after you leave, we can give him that treehouse.”

“Layla!”

[Layla’s in danger!]

[We’ll see who’s in danger.]

Shane was so angry that his eyes turned red.

Layla could tell he was upset, but she was also a little confused-because his eyes hadn’t turned to vertical slits.

She’d learned from the live chat that Shane’s eyes turned into snake eyes when he was angry. Since they hadn’t, he probably wasn’t that angry.

But he’d just cut her off.

That had never happened before.

Sure, Shane came across as cold-but that was just his nature. Apart from being a little petty, he was actually a very well-mannered person.

Chapter 74 Not Leaving

He never interrupted people.

One could tell just by looking at his students. They complained about him constantly-but always about how demanding he was. Nothing else.

In the eyes of people holding a grudge, even the tiniest flaw gets blown way out of proportion. But those students genuinely couldn’t find a single thing wrong with him besides his strictness. That told one everything-there was nothing else to criticize.

Layla gave Shane a tentative look. “Are you angry?”

Shane’s breath seemed to catch for a second. Then, under her questioning gaze, he nodded. “Yes.”

Apparently feeling that “yes” didn’t quite capture the full extent of his fury, he added, “Very angry.”

Layla said, “Oh.”

This was the good thing about Shane. When he got angry, he just told her he was angry. No guessing games.

All she had to do was ask, and he’d tell her.

Softie, right?

“Just ‘oh’?” Shane gave her a slight frown.

Layla pressed her lips together. “Why are you angry?”

“You’re not keeping the agreement.”

“How am I not keeping the agreement?” Layla asked.

“You’re trying to kick me out!” Shane’s voice was sharper now. Clearly, he was very angry.

Layla tilted her head. “I thought you wanted to leave.”

[I knew it! They were talking past each other?]

[She thought he wanted to leave; he thought she wanted him gone. Good thing neither of them is the type to be all sulky and dramatic. Otherwise, this misunderstanding could’ve dragged on for thirty chapters in a cheesy romance novel.]

[Thirty chapters? That’s conservative.]

“When did I ever say I wanted to leave?” Shane glared at Layla.

Layla said, “That’s enough out of you. You’ve glared at me like five times today already!”

Shane said, “Oh. Sorry. Can’t help it.”

Every time he thought about Layla trying to kick him out, the anger bubbled up inside him and he couldn’t hold it back. He felt this urge to bite something.

Layla was speechless.

The guy apologizes like it’s nothing, but he never actually changes.

But he’d said sorry, so for now, Layla couldn’t really do anything about it.

Shane looked at the woman in front of him, then at the cohabitation agreement in his hand. “We signed a contract. You can’t kick me out.”

“I’m not kicking you out.”
